Weight Loss Strategies
The Mayo Clinic website lists 6 strategies to help in weight loss and getting an ideal and healthy weight. The first step listed is to simply make a commitment. Staying steadfast and strong mentally is a major part of losing weight. You have to have the drive and the motivation to go through with it, fully realizing that you will indeed to make sacrifices along the way. Following up on this, the second step also has to do with the self, and that step is finding a motivation. Whether it's because a vacation is coming up or you are simply tired with how you look and want to look and feel better, having a motive and reason is imperative to going through with your weight loss. The third step described is to set realistic goals. You don't want your goals to be too difficult to reach or too outlandish so you won't risk losing motivation along the way. It's suggested that losing 1-2 pounds a week is a good average. The next strategy is to enjoy eating healthier. Many people get discouraged about losing weight because they won't get to enjoy eating food that is unhealthy but tastes really good. While sacrifices will indeed have to be made, many foods that are healthier (plant based or grain based) are delicious alternatives and gives people a chance to broaden their palette when it comes to food. A fifth strategy stresses the importance of exercise and being active overall. Even if it's not normal exercise such as lifting weights or doing push ups, even doing something as taking a walk can be very helpful. It's recommended that we get at least 30 minutes of some type of physical activity 5 days a week. Finally, the article advises that you change your perspective. More often than not, when people have lost weight and reached their goal, they stay on track for a little while and then go right back to their old habits and often find themselves regaining the weight they lost. The article stresses that maintaining a healthy weight should be a way of life, and that balance is key. While one doesn't have to go to such extreme lengths to maintain a good weight like they would while they're trying to lose weight, it's still important they keep the good habits they acquired from it. This includes the physical activity, eating healthier alternatives, and always being ready to conquer their next realistic goal.
