Legalization Benefits Of Marijuana

There has been a revelation in most recent researches that marijuana has numerous benefits, especially if it is used for medical reasons. This has encouraged some states to make the use of cannabis either for recreation or medical purposes legal. However, using, selling or possessing of cannabis is a crime in many states and at federal level (Aydelotte.et.al, 2017). The existence of these laws governing self-harm stand on unstable opinion since the government is made the guardian of the culture. It increases cases of racial discriminations due to the fact that most of the people charged for possession of marijuana are blacks even though research shows that the rate of using the drugs between whites and blacks are the same (Kerr.et.al, 2018). All the issues that arise with making marijuana illegal can be resolved only if the federal government ensures that the use and sale of the drug is legalized due to the benefits that is linked to the drug.

The government should also legalize marijuana because a group of economists have been able to prove that a lot of money is being spent in direct prohibition of the drug. All these expenses are dragging the economy of the country downwards especially because the legalization of cannabis would assist in ensuring that the government is spending its revenue in developmental projects (Pacula & Smart, 2018). In addition, the prohibition of marijuana is impeding the goals of the criminal justices since there are many cases of unreported crime relating to selling and use of cannabis. Studies have shown that an approximate of 2 million people each year use cannabis for the first time which is said to benefit the underground economy (Shi, 2017). The government could profit greatly from taxing marijuana, which would be used to enforce the laws to prohibit harmful substance and drugs like alcohol and tobacco (Compton.et.al, 2017). This act would also allow researchers to carry out studies on the drug in order to derive more treatment plans for better regulated uses.
