Community Teaching Work Plan Proposal

Planning and Topic

Directions: Develop an educational series proposal for your community using one of the following four topics:

1. Bioterrorism/Disaster

2. Environmental Issues

3. Primary Prevention/Health Promotion

4. Secondary Prevention/Screenings for a Vulnerable Population

Planning Before Teaching:

Name and Credentials of Teacher:

Estimated Time Teaching Will Last:

(40-55) minutes

Location of Teaching:

At a Church in the Community

Supplies, Material, Equipment Needed:

Spaghetti Noodles and snacks.

Estimated Cost:

$25.00

Community and Target Aggregate:

The children of the primary school (6-11) years.

Topic: How to prevent Diabetes type 2

Identification of Focus for Community Teaching (Topic Selection):

In my teaching plan, I will deal with the Primary Inhibition/Health Campaign, where my focus will be on obesity among children causing diabetes. The area of focus lies under Nutrition and weight status as an objective of the HP2020 world initiative.

Epidemiological Rationale for Topic (Statistics Related to Topic):

The statistics done by the CDC, shows that the chances of Diabetes have been increasing at a higher rate. In the United States of America, people with diabetes are more than 34 million (in every 1 to 10 Americans) ranging between 90-95% most of who have type 2. This type of diabetes mostly attacks persons of the age above 45 years but more in children, teens, and young grownups (adults). Our epidemiological concern for this is the increasing trend in the cases of diabetes.

Teaching Plan Criteria

Your teaching plan will be graded based on its effectiveness and relevance to the population selected. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric before beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Nursing Diagnosis:

Having Imbalanced nutrition: This is taking too much food than the required amount. It is usually characterized by a gain of weight.

Readiness for Learning: Identify the factors that would indicate the readiness to learn for the target aggregate. Include emotional and experiential readiness to learn.

The young grown-ups will compose themselves fully to the event in terms of their body feelings, on the measures that can be taken to prevent diabetes and fatness, conduct some conversations, show verbalization of their understanding and employ body language. The body language will help inspire, motivate, and even engage. The body language will not only improve my confidence but also help reassure that I know what I am trying to teach to them. Verbalization will ensure reality testing hence achieve secondary course.

Learning Theory to Be Utilized: Explain how the theory will be applied.

I will apply to explain back and behavioral methods as the learning theories. This will help me to be able to confirm whether what I am explaining to the audience is important and in a manner that can be understood and also identify the specific health habits that might cause obesity at different levels of age. Therefore, I will employ simple medical terminologies so that they cannot find it hard to comprehend. To confirm their understanding of what I will be teaching about, they will elaborate it back to me in their language. Once they explain it back to me, I will be able to evaluate their understanding of the same, after which I will re-educate where needed. These methods promote the use of personal contact, body language, eye contact, and repetition which enhance its effectiveness.

Goal: Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) objective(s) utilized as the goal for the teaching. Include the appropriate objective number and rationale for using the selected HP2020 objective (use at least one objective from one of the 24 focus areas). If an HP2020 objective does not support your teaching, explain how your teaching applies to one of the two overarching HP2020 goals.

Diet and the status of your weight within the global inventiveness involve strong research in science of the benefits that accrue to people who take healthy foods. Some characteristics of a healthful diet include; consuming foods of dense nutrients crosswise the classification of foods, mostly added sugars, limited intake of cholesterol, sodium salt, alcohol and also taking fewer calories.

One of the HPP2020 goals is to increase the number of schools that offer healthy and nutritious foods. The importance of this is that it will aid encourage schools not to offer foods with a lot of calories, cholesterol but advocate for healthy ones like whole grains and fruits.

How Does This HP2020 Objective Relate to Alma Ata's Health for All Global Initiatives?

This goal of 2020 about health people recounts with Alma Ata's work since it enlightens people on health problems and how to avoid them, and proper intake of food and nutrition (The Lessons of Alma-Ata, 2018). The HP2020 objective shares a common goal with that of Alma ata as a global initiative in that they both advocate for healthy diet taking, where the audience is encouraged on the specific examples of healthy foods to consume (From Health for All to Universal Health Coverage,2018).

Develop Behavioral Objectives (Including Domains), Content, and Strategies/Methods:

Behavioral Objective

and Domain

Example – Third-grade students will name one healthy food choice in each of the five food groups by the end of the presentation. (Cognitive Domain)

Content (be specific)

Example – The Food Pyramid has five food groups which are….

Healthy foods from each group are….

Unhealthy foods containing a lot of sugar or fat are….

Strategies/Methods

(label and describe)

Example – Interactive poster presentation of the Food Pyramid. After an explanation of the poster and each food category, allow students to place pictures of foods on the correct spot on the pyramid. Also, have the class analyze what a child had for lunch by putting names of foods on the poster and discussing what food group still needs to be eaten throughout the day.

1. Kids will be in a position to acknowledge the benefits of fruits and vegetables in the five portions.

1.The richly colored foods in the groups with red, yellow/orange, blue/ purple, and white green comprise nutrients that are not anywhere else

1. Providing dyeing sheets for each type of food in the five groups to each child and then provide the relevant foods to each color, hence giving a presentable output of the same.

2. Both parents and the students will say some types of healthy foods from the pyramids.

2. Eating foods with fewer calories, fewer fats, and even those without cholesterol.

2. Students and parents will come up with a meal of snacks using the pyramid and with reasons to tell whether it is healthy or not.

3. Promoting physical exercises among children to avoid obesity.

3. Deny children from watching TV to encourage physical fitness through exercises.

3. Put in place programs that favor physical activities in the school.

4. Parents to be educated on the importance of physical exercises.

4.Kids should be provided with the necessary assets for doing exercises

· Appropriate feedback that encouraged self-assessment was given to the students.

Planned Evaluation of Objectives (Outcome Evaluation): Describe what you will measure for each objective and how.

1. These are the students eating behaviors to be improved. I will identify their diet.

2. The change in the behaviors will promote good health. I will detect good health by taking note of people having a medium weight.

4. The criterion was realistic and timely.

Planned Evaluation of Goal: Describe how and when you could evaluate the overall effectiveness of your teaching plan.

I can do that by asking my friend to observe me when teaching.

I can also videotape myself during the lesson.

I can ask my colleague to read my plan after the lesson.

I can also take notes during class.

Checking scores for tests and homework after a lesson is also another way of evaluating the effectiveness.

Planned Evaluation of Lesson and Teacher (Process Evaluation):

· First, you organize the purpose of the class.

· Familiarize yourself with the students.
