Running Head: MALNUTRITION IN PREGNANT WOMEN 1

MALNUTRITION IN PREGNANT WOMEN 4

Malnutrition in Pregnant Women

The intervention-planning model I have selected to frame my program around is the Malnutrition in Pregnant Women. Pregnancy is a critical period during which maternal nutrition cause a significant effect on a mother’s and baby’s health. Deficiency of adequate food of good quality and quantity during pregnancy can cause health problems for both the mother and her fetus. Maternal malnutrition increases the risk of gestational anemia, hypertension, miscarriages, and fetal deaths during pregnancy, pre-term delivery, and maternal mortality. For newborn, it can contribute to low birth weight, fetal intrauterine growth retardation that may have long life consequences on neonatal development, quality of life and health care costs. Malnutrition also hurts the development of the immune system of the newborn. Therefore, identifying maternal nutrition and fetal development relationship is critical. A Prospective Cohort study of 150 pregnant women carried in maternal and child health care centers in Menufia Governorate. There was a significant relationship between maternal malnutrition and protective and newborn outcomes.

Adopting a lifestyle that is healthy among women in the reproductive period can enhance their social, psychological and physical wellbeing. Furthermore, women having unhealthy lifestyle related to improper diet will be in danger for complex pregnancy as well as severe outcomes of pregnancy for instance low birth weight along with defects in the neural tube. Actually, the behavior on maternal nutrition below optimal control before conception profits the fetus plus fulfils the least danger of injury to the baby who is unborn. The theory to be used for expectant women having malnutrition is planned behaviour.1

In line with planned behavioral theory, I plan to perform a particular program to assists in the process of pregnancy. Within the perspective of birth preparation, particular arrangements as well as planning could better guarantee the survival of the mother and the unborn child. There is little information concerning predictors of birth planning intention amongst couples who are expecting. This theory is recommendable because a person’s plan to carry out a conduct when it is evaluated positively, think that the significant others believe they must do it, plus recognize it to be in their personal control.1

The intervention planning model that can appropriate in the community this program are Nutritional counseling needs to be an integral part of antenatal care to reduce the risk of maternal-fetal and infant complications.

Intervention that cover various interventions, which range from fortification, dietary supplements along with deworming pills to change in behavior. This includes iron-folate supplementation, supplementation of calcium, as well as balanced supplementation of energy-protein. Supplementation of iron-folate decreases the mother’s rate of anemia, and it the main cause of deaths in mothers. Folic acid is additionally known to lessen the birth defects danger in babies. Balanced energy-protein reduces still-birth incidence, and reduces the danger of little for infants in the gestation period. Supplementation of calcium decreases opportunity for preeclampsia in birth, which also causes death in mothers. These interventions also affect reduced birth weight, which could have several significant effects.1
