Before The Fall

In the book ‘Before the Fall,' there is a tragedy of a plane which kills David Bateman, his wife, his daughter, and all the plane crew. JJ and artist Scot were the only survivor of the plane crash. After a while, a talk show host known as Bill Cunningham spreads rumors that scott had an affair with Maggie who was Bateman's wife. The reporter also alerted the public that there was a potential terrorist attack that would occur. These were fake news since finally the authority tracks down the flight recorder and finds out that the co-pilot was the cause of the crashed plane since his rude sexual requests had been rejected by Margie Bateman. This story is a good example of how media distort the real story of an incidence to fit their desires. (Hawley, 300).

A real-life example of how the media distort the real story to come up with a fake story is the case in the Washington Post. In that year there was a war on drug strategy which was led by President Nixon. Janet Cooke who was a journalist in Washington post published a story referred to as Jimmy's World which was about an addict of Heroin who was eight years old. This resulted in a police search to get the boy and Cooke was awarded the Pulitzer Award. After these Cooke admitted that the story was fake and returned the award.

People who have died reduce to name and age since they are easily forgotten because people have their challenges and they even forget things that are associated with them due to the stress and the pressure in the society. Reducing the dead to name and age is natural. What should matter is when people find time to think about you though it is very hard. This could be one of the reasons why Cunningham listed the people who died on one page. Cunningham did not focus on the proprietor since he had an agenda of convincing people that Scott was the cause of the plane crash since they had an affair with Maggie the wife to Bateman.

The plane crash was caused by Charlie since his toxicological report shows that he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. This shows that he was flying the plane while high and drunk. He also had a history of dating with Emma who was a flight attendant. He wanted to have a sexual activity with Emma, but she turned his desire down. Emma slapped Charlie across the face causing him to nose bleed and left the cockpit to handle the nose bleed and began calling Emma names and intentionally left the plane to crash in the ocean. (Hawley, 90).

After the plane crashed in the sixteenth minute into the flight, everyone except scot and Bateman’s son dies. Scot is amazed by the fact that he had survived a plane crash. He first chose the direction to swim in. as he is about to take his first stroke he hears some noise and thinks that it is a gull that rises and falls in a high pitched ululation. But the sea lifts scot and while at the peak of the wave, he realizes that what he was hearing was a baby crying. He swims towards the direction of the noise and struggles to hear and to trace the child. Scot would then hear someone yelling asking for help. He then lungs towards the sound, he finds a child clinging to a seat cushion. Scott recognized that the baby was a boy and that he was not more than four years. (Hawley, 300).

Scott no longer felt lonely rather he felt responsible for the life of another person. The baby was shivering. The baby begs scot not to leave him and scot responds that he wouldn’t and he would take him with him. Scot ties a floatation device trap into a weave and slips the boy into it which would aid in keeping the boy above the water. Scot teaches the boy how he would hold on the floatation device to allow him to pull him to the sore. The boy seems to be in so much fear and Scot tries to comfort him to ease his tension. Scot has a shoulder fracture which causes him to swim with his left arm.

Scot is confused about the direction to take since there is too much current and he still did not know the direction to the shore. Scot starts swimming and avoids stopping since he believes he will drown. Scot calmly floats in the sea during the rising and falling of tides. The boy seems afraid and wonders what they were doing. Scott responds that it was important for them to behave in that manner since the sharks would leave them alone if they remained calm. Scott assures him that his sister was okay since the boy seemed worried about her so much.

As Scott was swimming on his back, he finds a north star which confirmed that they were swimming in the right direction. Scott keeps on lunging and pulling using his right arm, to avoid fear he kept his mind occupied by thinking that he was swimming in milk or soup. At one time there was a huge wave that was too fast that was moving in their direction. He pulls the boy from the floatation item and dives towards the wave. As the wave reduces, Scott places the boy in his back as he swims towards the shore and they arrive at the shore. (Hawley, 1). ?????????? REPETED

In the book Before the Fall, the writer suggests that the newscast by the media is not always reliable. The writer narrates how the media interfered with the real cause of the plane crash. Cunningham reported that the plane crash was caused by Scott since he had an affair with Margie. He convinced people by telling them that it was impossible for only one person and a child to survive in the plane crash. This fact of Newscasters being not genuine makes us as the viewers to doubt the report from newscasters. Reporters are expected to fully research on a matter and get the facts before reporting it to the viewers. (Hawley, 1). NO NEED FOR QOUTATIONS

Some of the characters in Before the Fall were Scott, Maggie, Lightner, and Eleanor. Scot was an artist and one of the two survivors of the crashed plane. He had mostly spent his life drinking and only stopped these after recommitting himself to art. Scot's love for swimming helped him save his life and that of JJ after the crash. His privacy and anonymity make him attract attention from the public after the plane crash. He realized that the plane crash gave him a chance to take have his life in his arms and make good use out of it. Maggie died in the plane crash and did invite Scot in the flight since they had a casual friendship at the farmer's market. Later on, we find that she had an affair with someone else who was anonymous. She was a wife to David Bateman who was a well-respected businessman. She was as well a mother to JJ and Rachael. (Hawley, 1).

Eleanor was Margie’s younger sister who was JJ's aunt and a massage therapist. She and her husband adopted JJ after his parent's death. She had a very kind heart. Lightner was a flight attendant at the private plane that Bateman and his family were traveling in, she died in the plane crash.

Charlie was a messed up kind but his uncle, a US senator intervened and set him on the right path. Charlie was in an abusive relationship with Emma. Charlie’s toxicology tests show that Charlie was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine while flying the plane. ((((REPETED )))Emma had also refused to give in to Charlie's sexual request during the day of the flight.((FALSE INFORMATION, he wanted to get her back and give him a mother kind of love )) This made her slap him across the face that made him a nose bleed.((( are you sure he bleeds ?))) Charlie began calling Emma names before intentionally crashing the plane into the ocean. (((Repeated )))(Hawley, 90). NO NEED FOR THIS
