Level 3

A high level of achievement.

Uses most of the primary and secondary source material to show understanding of the content.

Effective analysis and evaluation through regular implementation of their own ideas.

Secure overall structure; mostly well sequenced. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar generally accurate. Sentences and vocabulary are effective.

Sense of audience mostly secure; there is evidence of style and fluency. Attempt to achieve professional formatting.

Level 2

A moderate level of achievement.

Selects some of the primary and secondary source material and/or uses it thinly to show some understanding of the content.

Some analysis and evaluation of their own ideas, but not effective.

Basic structure. Frequent errors of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Simple or faultily constructed sentences; vocabulary simple.

Inconsistent style. Basic formatting with some slips.

Level 1

Achievement is below the provincial standard.

Limited use of the primary and secondary source material, therefore, limited understanding of content.

Limited analysis and evaluation of their own ideas.

The response is not always well sequenced. Errors of spelling, punctuation, and grammar impair communication. Often unclear expression.

Inappropriate style. Disregard for formatting.
