This course explores the arts and humanities from a broad inter-disciplinary perspective, examining the influences of society, politics and economics as well as science and technology on various forms of aesthetic expression. Art pieces and movements are studied in context and students are encouraged to question their understanding of the world using aesthetic expression as a reflection of it. A strong emphasis is placed on developing an ability to evaluate various types of artistic creativity as expressions of and departures from the cultural mainstream, equipping students with the skills necessary to draw connections between scientific thinking, social development and aesthetic expression.
