Ethics in Research

Part 1

Ethics is important in conducting any research. Research ethics is concerned with the morals of protecting the research participants. Research might be unethical in a situation whereby the participants of the study are exposed to harm for their participation in the provision of information (Farrimond, 2012). Lack of proper care in the use of animals in research is unethical. Research can also be unethical if risks and harm to human beings are not minimized, and there is no autonomy, respect, and privacy for human dignity. These issues can make research unethical is they are not considered and addressed.

The primary ethical considerations for research are beneficence, autonomy, informed consent and respect for privacy (Comstock, 2013). The researcher must ensure that the participation of a respondent has no harm or risks to him/her rather the participants should benefit from their information. The respondents should participate willingly, and they should not be induced to take part against they will. The researcher should also ensure that the particulars of the participants are not disclosed. The data collected should be analyzed collectively to uphold the privacy of the research.

Ethical concerns are important, and they should be addressed at the beginning of a survey. The survey should have an independent clause assuring the participants of their privacy, security, and autonomy as they take part in the research (Comstock, 2013). Participants should be assured of the levels of confidentiality and that their participation does not attract any risks or harm.
