Alzheimer’s disease is also known as senile dementia. The previously done research has indicated that a huge number of the American population have acquired the mental condition and it is most common in elderly people between the age of 65 to 85 and any age that exceeds 85. The disease has been reported to affect over 5 million American population and impacts are mostly felt by the family members, friends of those possessing the health condition and the caregivers. However, dementia is just the general name given to any form of memory loss. The disease was named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer who has discovered changes in the brain pattern of a woman who had passed because of an unusual mental illness. Moreover, her symptoms included memory loss, communication complication in terms of language, in addition to that, she had developed unusual change in behavior. In this case, there need to be interventions as to how the death rate could be lowered since most of the old people tend to receive less healthcare attention as a result inadequate professional healthcare givers and people to guide them on how they should maintain their medical patterns. One of the major results of memory loss is that it may lead to the habit of skipping dose prescription by the doctors due to lack of care and complication that may result of a confusion leading to maybe an older person mistaking a drug for another. There is also standard medical test to detect for presence of certain substances in the body fluids such as urine test or blood tests. The most important nursing intervention is the provision of proper healthcare services to the people suffering the condition.
