The last several decades have brought us unprecedented change in technology and society. This
technology can be broken down into generations. A first-generation telephone that was able to
communicate without wires. The second-generation devices were capable of short written
messages. The third-generation devices were when the familiar smart phones made their debut.
These smart phones were also able to send photos between devices. The fourth-generation
improved upon the idea of visual telecommunications and was able to give rise to video calling
between devices. Each of these generations had a significant impact on the way our civilization
interacts. Each generation also had a large amount of networking upgrades behind the
introduction of the features. Our schools, businesses and public services have all been integrated
with the latest generations of telecommunications technology and are benefiting greatly from
them.
Verizon’s 5g network will be the most reliable network yet. Its coverage will be superior to its
4th generation. Which is already the most reliable out of all the cellular networks currently. This
coverage will be allowed by the massive amount of 5G nodes that are being installed around the
country. Allowing for more reliable and faster speeds. This is just the beginning of the new 5G
networks new and improved features.
Verizon wireless is very aware of their place as the leaders of innovation in the
telecommunications industry. As leaders in the industry, Verizon wireless has picked up on an
upcoming trend. The internet of things is becoming ever present in our society. Objects like TVs,
thermostats lightbulbs and many other things are being connected to the internet. Verizon seeks

to even further connect these things with the next generation of telecommunication. Verizon’s
5G network will allow for unprecedented connectivity between things connected to the internet.
Verizon can achieve this connectivity with it’s 5G network that, “will allow up to 100 times
better throughput, 10 times longer battery life and 1,000 times larger data volumes, all while
being 10 times more reliable.” (Verizon.com).
These household items that are connected to the internet are simple enough and produce a more
convenient life for consumers. The market is truly massive and they already are a huge part of it
as internet providers. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as benefits from 5G
technology. If the internet of things in a house can be connected, why not a factory? The
possibilities on Verizon’s 5G network are seemingly endless. We could, in a very short amount
of time, be living in a truly integrated world.
Verizon is culturing this idea of smart houses, factories and cities. Around the country they have
soft released 5G nodes and allowed cutting edge companies to partner with them. The results are
truly remarkable, things that were not possible over previous networks are now possible over 5G.
One example of the power of the 5G network can be found in the company Arvizio. They have
utilized the 5G networks speed and data transfer rates to make augmented reality design reviews.
The augmented design reviews allow people from any distance to both view a hologram of the
part that they are reviewing. They can make changes to the design of the part in real time as well
as make notes and things of that nature. Before the introduction of the 5G network Arvizo
reported only being able to do these kinds of augmented design reviews with two or three people
in the same room. 5G has resolved the limitations of their network and has allowed Arvizo to
make their augmented reality design reviews more practical.

A more utilitarian example of the power of the 5G network would be the smart factory. The
ultra-low bandwidth would allow a factory to connect an unprecedented number of sensors and
assembly robots to a single system. Thus, allowing a floor manager to optimize the factories
outputs and identify production problems with unparalleled accuracy. All from a single program
on a computer in his office, or as mentioned before with the network speed and data transfer
speeds anywhere in the world.
The final feature that will be discussed is perhaps the most ambitious. The ability to scale up or
down the coverage of the 5g network would could allow for a smart city. One that was able to
optimally direct traffic through sensors placed around the street by the local government. Or it
could provide the connectivity and data transfer speeds to connect all the cars in the city and
allow them to drive themselves. It could also be more environmentally friendly by reducing the
amount of power brought to the city during certain times based on data it collects from sensors
placed on major buildings. The 5g technology’s real world applications and there-fore its direct
benefits are only truly limited by the ingenuity of what is connected to it.
Conclusions: • The5G network will be more reliable than its 4G predecessor, which is already the most reliable
in the nation.
• The 5g network allows for unprecedented network speeds, which allows for companies like
Arvizo to have Augmented reality design reviews in real time, anywhere in the world. This allows
for meetings that involve very technical drawings to be much more efficient because everyone is
looking at the same augmented reality at the same time. Creating a seamless work
environment.
• The 5g network also allows for near unlimited connectivity due to its massive data transfer
volumes. Things like smart houses and factories are a huge market. They are also much more
efficient than traditional homes and factories and are therefore very attractive to buyers.
• The 5G network can be scaled. This allows for things like smart cities to become a reality. Cities
can have 5G nodes installed everywhere and become more environmentally friendly and
efficient.
