It is the 39th-largest mobile telecommunications operator in the world, with more than 74 million mobile customers. The company is a global Internet carrier, and it makes up a portion of the Internet backbone. In the United States, the company is the third-largest long-distance provider, and it also owns a majority share of the company operating the largest wireless broadband network. It operates two separate wireless technologies, CDMA and iDEN. Avisitel was in the news two years ago following leaks of customer data because of a major vulnerability in a Web application. The company compensated its affected consumers and comprehensively overhauled its cybersecurity setup.
