Describe 6 pairs of stop and go signals that are driving use cases for the Autonomous Vehicle
Intelligent Stop and Go
Purpose:
The purpose of this extra credit opportunity is to test your understanding of use cases for a set of simple actions by an Autonomous Vehicle (AV).
An AV is obviously a very complex system that collects signals from its environment. The AV interprets these signals based on stored history enhanced by the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Based on the interpretation the AV takes actions such as stopping, overtaking, avoiding pedestrians and so on.
This assignment is a simple subset of these actions responding to signals captured by the sensing systems of the AV.
Knowledge:
Based on your driving experience, you will describe a signal that should cause the AV to stop when it follows safe driving practice. Sometime later the AV will detect another signal to which t will respond by going and continuing its journey.
In some situations, such as an accident with no clear path forward, it is not acceptable for the AV to wait for the road to be cleared. A maximum wait time should be established and then the AV should follow a use case which will enable it to move on, just as a human driver would.
Tasks:
1. While driving the vehicle will encounter circumstances that require the vehicle to stop. That is a stop “signal”. Another set of conditions will follow that allow the vehicle to continue on its way. This is a go “signal”
2. Describe 6 pairs of stop and go signals that are driving use cases for the AV
3.Note, most of these signals are straightforward as you will know from your experience of driving. They are generally defined by the rules of the road and considerations of safe driving.
4.For this assignment you can assume that the AV has the capability to capture and evaluate these signals correctly. The AV collects accurate information about its environment.
