Assignment Instructions:

For this assignment, pretend you are in charge of a group of children aged 2 to 6. You are responsible for their care from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. You must provide safe and quality care for the children. Describe in detail what you will do for each day of the typical work week (Monday through Friday) to meet their physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development needs. As part of this for each day, you should explicitly state what activities you will do (what will you do and why, how long will each activity last, how will you transition, explain how they are age appropriate, etc.). Each day you must provide three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and two snacks (morning/afternoon). Explicitly state what each meal and snack consist of and how you are meeting their nutritional needs in a healthy way. How are you going to meet their various cognitive needs and social-emotional needs throughout the course of the day? What other factors might you consider during the day and why?

You must justify the actions you are taking through connection back to the developmental theories such as Piaget's cognitive developmental theory, Vygotsky's theory, Freud's psychoanalytic theory, Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development, Pavlov's Theory of Classical Conditioning, Skinner's Theory of Operant Conditioning, Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, and Erik Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development.

For example, in Vygotsky's work, a large part of this includes scaffolding and zones of proximal development, so you might include an art activity that begins on Monday and you build in more skills throughout the week for a finished product on Friday that they can take home.

You must include connection back to at least five developmental theories throughout your document, these should include references at the end of the document as well as in the text.

I would suggest organizing the document by each day in a calendar like format with specific time periods as that will more clearly address the time frames for each of the activities. Additionally, you need to point out how you are addressing the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development specifically in each of your tasks throughout the day. So, build in some space for this. You may elect to use bullet points as well that address each of these areas in a daily format. Writing this out only narratively is not going to be the best organizational format.

Below are some pdf documents and websites to check out that talk about nutritional information. Many of us can remember the food pyramid from when we were younger, but now the MyPlate guidelines are what many focus on, so the links below take you to that information as well as other sources.
