An explanatory model for the relationship between motivation in sport, victimization, and video game use in schoolchildren is an article written by Manuel et al (2018). The article discusses on the effect of use of technological devices like video games and mobile phones on a child’s behavior. In their research, Manuel et al (2018) discusses the problematic use of video games, physical activity, and motivational climate in sports and victimization in schoolchildren. Their findings are based on literature materials and their own research. In their research study, they used a questionnaire on 734 schoolchildren, which included both boys and girls aged 10-12.

In their research, they claim that use of media and more so playing video games affects children physical health, social life and cognitive. He claims that playing video games and watching videos reduces physical activity, which contributes to health problems like obesity and eye problems. In social life, children lack socio-emotional skills because they are exposed to violent videos where bad habits are rewarded and killing, rebelliousness or fighting seems to be celebrated. This has resulted to many children being aggressive and rebellious. Cognitive is affected because video games and other media creates anxiety and in extreme cases can cause depression. Screen based entertainment like in TV and other visual media devices has increased victimization, poor academic performance and depression that creates intrafamilial conflicts. They also claim that teens pick bad habits like drug abuse and substance use from the videos.

To curb the effects of abuse of media, the authors recommends increased motivational climates. in the motivational, schoolchildren are encouraged to engage in physical activity for fun and also for competition. Where children are addicted to media use, they recommend task oriented activities that encourage healthy habits and adaptive behavior in aggressive children.
