Assumptions and Constraints

Assumptions are anticipated circumstances of events that are expected during the life cycle of a project (Usmani, 2020). Assumptions are made based on the information at hand. On the other hand, constraints are considered as the limitations imposed on a project (Abdilahi, Fashina, & Fakunle, (2020). There are several differences between assumptions and constraints. In most cases, constraints are considered to be bad for a project while assumptions are considered to have a positive outlook on a project. Another difference is that constraints are factual while assumptions are only believed to be true. The final difference is that if assumptions made for a project are not achieved it may mean failure of a project while if the constraints are not attained it means there is positive news for the project (Usmani, 2020). Thus, there is a need to do an analysis of assumptions before a project begins while the constraints should be determined throughout the life cycle of a project.

There are several assumptions in the case of creating new, larger work stations for the technology department. The first assumption is that all needed resources will be available. The next assumption is that the location for creating the required number of working stations will be available within the budgetary limits. The final assumption is that the contracted company will deliver within the stipulated period. However, there are several constraints that accompany the project. The project must be completed within a period of one month. The other constraint is that the project should not exceed the allocated budget. The final constraint is that there will be only one site engineer overseeing the extensive project. These assumptions and constraints are appropriate for this project as they appropriately contribute to the risk management plan. Consideration of the impact of each of the assumptions and constraints can be vital for the success of any project.
