Assiment 1
When it comes to any type of assessment, I tend to go the non-traditional route. I rather you show me what you have learned, rather than you answering a number of multiple-choice questions (this is not to say that this will not be an option in the future).
A simple instructional design formula Laura has used for years is what she calls the “POP.” This mnemonic is an easy to remember design trick that reminds us to decide the learning purpose, outcome(s), and process. The POP can be applied by both educators designing instruction and learners planning self-directed learning. To complete a POP you need to answer three questions: (1) what is the overarching purpose of the educational program? The purpose is the overarching goal and should be established with the learners and context in mind. Next, (2) what are the key learning outcomes desired? The outcomes should attend to needs of the learner, educator and context and incorporate the various learning domains (such as Affective, Behavioral, and Cognitive) and accommodate diverse learning styles (sensory or experiential). Finally, (3) what is the best process for attaining the purpose and outcomes? The process should maximize different learning procedures and be sensitive to adult learners and context.
Write a POP for your next teaching event in an adult education ESL setting or critique an existing one and see if you want to make changes. (300-500 words)
