One of the goals and benefits of coaching is to encourage self-discovery without providing the “answer.” The purpose of this assignment is to engage in a selfdiscovery process about your career development through the use of peer coaching. You will play two roles in the completion of this assignment. As the coachee (person receiving the coaching), you will answer a series of reflective questions on the meaning of career, your current and/or anticipated career development, factors that influence your career development, and any insights

gained from completing the TypeFocus Assessment. You will share your answers with a peer coach from the class who will use your answers to prepare a coaching session that is designed to provoke greater self-discovery and insight into your career interests and development goals. As the peer coach, you will review the coachee’s answers and use a coaching tip sheet to prepare for the coaching session. During a face-toface/Skype/phone meeting (to be arranged by coach and coachee), you will meet with your peer coach/coachee and spend 30 minutes in each role, followed by participation in an online class debrief. Comment by shravan uttakalla: We don’t have this, but I have partner’s reflection paper. I’ll highlight the part which she wrote a coach, so you will have to write the Coachee part of the assignment based on that. And the coach part of the assignment will be based on her Coachee part.

Lastly, individually you will write a 2 page summary and reflective paper on what you learned as the coachee and peer coach through this process, what selfdiscoveries, surprises, and affirmations/confirmations you gained through this exercise. Incorporate into your paper what you have learned about career development theories and insights gained from the assessments.

Through the processes of self-reflection and coaching, you will gain greater understanding into your perceptions of career development, learn how to give and receive feedback, and foster self-discovery through the power of questions.
