Worksheet Chapter 13
Meiosis and Sexual Life Cycles
Complete the worksheet using the information gathered from the videos posted in the assignment instructions, the textbook chapter, and associated lecture highlights.
Building Knowledge
1. Define a diploid cell and a haploid cell.
2. Define a germ cell. Is it diploid or haploid? Where are germ cells found in mammals?
3. Explain the characteristics of a homologous pair of chromosomes.

Application
Review figure 13.8 in the textbook chapter. Use the following statement to answer the application section of the worksheet.
A mammalian germ cell has a chromosome number of 2n = 8
1. Draw the movement to chromosomes during Anaphase I and then Anaphase II. Include in each drawing applicable labels: homologous pair, duplicated chromosome, unduplicated chromosome, centromere. Draw arrows showing the direction of chromosome movement. Do not draw a cell membrane around chromosomes.
Anaphase I Anaphase II
2. Select from the statements below the one that describes the resulting chromosome number in each new cell at the end anaphase I or II, and the completion of cytokinesis during telophase I and II. Add the selection description to the anaphase statements. Do not draw circles with arrows.
2n = 8; duplicated chromosomes; 2 cells
2n = 8; unduplicated chromosomes; 4 cells
1n = 4; duplicated chromosomes; 2 cells
1n = 4; unduplicated chromosomes; 4 cells
