Introduction

Miami FL 33145 was first settled by Tequesta Indians

Miami was the only state in the US founded by a lady.

African American labor had a major role in Miami’s early development.

It is among the fast-growing characterized by a substantial level of disparity in several spheres (Miami Herald, 2020).

African Americans from the Bahamas and Southern States like Alabama and New Orleans were a key resource to develop our lovely city of Miami at the beginning (Miami Herald, 2020).

2

Community Vitality

People can be seen in the morning as they leave their homes to work and school.

The main group of people who live in the neighborhood are families with school-aged children. Thus, the age range is between 6 to 40 years old.

Hispanic people are the main group shown around my neighborhood. However, there are a few African Americans, and white North Americans represented in my community as well (United States Census Bureau, 2017).

I am located close to Little Havana so many neighbors of mine emigrated or, at least have Hispanic heritage.

3

Miami tends to be a diverse area where many tourists from all over the world come to visit often.

The main tourist attraction sceneries include Miami Beach, museums, national parks, marketplace, Bayfront Park.

Some individuals appear to be under the influence of drugs in the evening. Nevertheless, most of them were sober.

There were no young kids identified at the time. There was one pregnant woman identified.

According to the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (2020), the total number of residents live births in Miami-Dade County in 2018 was lower (11.1) compared to the same indicator in 2017 (11.5) which means that fewer women are looking forward to giving birth amount our population.

Indicators of Social and Economic Conditions:

Majority of the homes were single and well-kept units. There is no public housing or dilapidated homes around my neighborhood.

There were various new constructions identified. There were new houses, hospitals, and even religious houses under construction.

Personal cars, as well as public transportation, is used in the transport industry.

There are plenty of job opportunities.

Majority of the bus stops were clean with average bus rounds every 25 minutes.

Mercy Hospital just underwent a massive renovation project which included their acute care floors, the construction of a brand-new helipad and boat dock.

In my community, there are plenty of job opportunities, especially in the small business sector, for example, restaurants.

5

There were no homeless individuals in my area. Therefore, the majority of the individuals were employed, occupying offices as well as healthcare positions.

There were no political campaign signs identified.

Regarding schools and daycare centers, there were several childcare facilities (Lincoln-Marti), and public schools (Shenandoah Elementary and Middle School) around my area.

Although there were no homeless identified, Miami registered an unemployment rate of more than 15% in May 2020 (TownCharts, 2018).

Even though Francis Suarez was re-elected as City Mayor last week, I was not able to find any yard sign or advertisement around my area which I think is because Mayor Suarez has the sympathy of electors around my area, and he had their undivided support for this electoral campaign.

6

Health Resources:

Regarding health care, there were elite facilities like Lennar Foundation Medical Center, rehabilitation facilities like Victoria and Coral Gables Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Florida Department of Health, 2017).

There were several specialized clinics like Khouri Dermatology inside Miami Hand Center and family planning facilities like Planned Parenthood at Coral Way.

Due to the operation of medical facilities as well as mobile health cars, the resources are enough for dealing with the medical needs of this community.

7

8

Environmental Conditions Related to Health:

There were few parks spotted like Bryan Park.

They are many regular dining and fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s and Burger King.

Though there are some food is sold on the streets, there was very little garbage.

In regard to all the nuisances, flies were identified, especially with this very humid weather.

Miami’s humidity percentage is almost always elevated due to our tropical weather and proximity to the east coast of the country. Therefore, we are used to dealing with flies and sometimes mosquitoes too.

9

Social Functioning:

Regarding the places of worship, the orthodox church was identified like Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church.

The majority of the neighbors were communicating friendly.

Families were seen during various times of the day. There were no same-sex families around when conducting this research. Most of them were married couples with kids staying apart from their parents.

10

Attitude Toward Health and Health Care:

There were several choices for botanicals, folk, and herbal medicine shops, for example, Botanica Viejo Lazaro.

The medical facilities were operating efficiently.

There were private laboratories and massage facilities.

There were efforts to enhance the neighborhood’s health like signs that clarify the places allowed to throw garbage.

There were several neighbors playing basketball at the park and exercising.

Most prevalent diagnosis I found was Fear.

When I asked my neighbors what motivated them to exercise, 4 of 5 answered to prevent healthcare complications which demonstrated the significance of preventive and wellness care for them.

Aside from the neighbors mentioned above, almost all the individuals interviewed expressed some kind of anxiety and fear due to the current Coronavirus Pandemic and its new variant.

11

Conclusion

Ethnic minorities often face the issue of language barriers.

Pregnant ladies and adolescents may experience health issues due to the conditions in their families. This might lead to miscarriages as well as the death of babies (Harris & Vora, 2018).

All population need to exercise more and change their sedentary lifestyle towards one that prevents them from developing further health issues and complications.

The area can be considered as the one that is constantly developing and striving for better safety and health of its population. The range of medical services provided in the community is wide while there are also a lot of healthcare centers situated in proximity to the community. The community has a developed network of pharmacies and other stores providing products that are essential for providing a high quality of life for the population.
