Some things to remember:
1. After using the author’s first and last name, you only use the last name. You do not have to keep writing Robert J. Sternberg. Just Sternberg is fine. NEVER Robert – he is not your friend.
2. Write in present tense. The author contends. The author argues. The author states… (you get the idea).
3. Make sure to include paraphrases and “quotations” when necessary (Chambers, 2018) or (Chambers, 2018, p. 1). The period comes after the closing parentheses of the citation.
4. State the name of the article and the author’s name at the beginning of the conclusion. Restate his position and restate how you evaluate his (or her) argument and article. You can end with your own musings on the issue the author addresses, but do not include new points that should be addressed in the body of the critical summary.
