Assignment Tasks

First, read and take notes from the textbook chapter 20 from page 802 "The Culture Wars," to page 815 end at the segment "The Great Depression" about the fundamentalists and the modernists. Consider the debate regarding the future - especially pay attention to the Scopes trial. Feel free to look for primary sources online about this debate and the issues from BOTH sides.

Then, write a letter exchange or spoken dialog between two women in 1920 on opposite sides of this debate. Creatively explain who the women are and how they are related. Perhaps they are a mother and daughter, two friends, pen pals, or sisters. Regardless of their relationship, they are on opposite sides of this issue. Write a dialog in which each woman attempts to persuade the other to change their mind on the debate. Write either at least 4 short letters (1 paragraph each) or 300-400 words of dialog. This assignment is due by 11:59 pm on Friday, July 7th. There will be a point deduction for each day the assignment is late unless prior arrangements are made.

Criteria

Your submission will be assess based on how well you accurately represent the position of each character, the creativity of the writing, and the thoroughness of the dialog.
