Stand and Deliverã The Exercise: Here’s what you’ll learn • The participant will practice skills in quickly and effectively packaging messages using
the techniques offered in this class. • The participant will have the opportunity to sharpen his or her skills in applying the
Nichols’ Two-Things©, Question Opening©, Cold Closing© and Sense Messages techniques in developing and delivering his or her message.
• To simulate the type of communication found during staff meetings or task team
meetings, the participant will have a brief period of time to prepare his or her message. The Exercise: Here’s what you’ll do • You will present your Stand & Deliver© to your group on a “Fun Topic.” • Maximum time for talk: one minute The Exercise: Order of presentation Fun Stand & Deliver© The “Fun Topics” are assigned to the participant approximately ten minutes before his or her presentation. Participants preparing to present take one of three “stand-by” positions: Step 1 the Group gives the speaker three topics from which the student will select one as his
or her topic. The participant will step outside the classroom to prepare his or her presentation.
Step 2 as Speaker One returns to the room to begin his or her presentation, the Group
repeats Step 1 for Speaker Two, who then leaves the room to prepare his or her message. This student will speak next.
Step 3 after Speaker One has finished, Speaker Two is asked to enter and the Group calls the
next participant’s name. Steps 1 and 2 are then repeated until all students have presented.

• Projecting I Belong Here • Use of Cold Closing© • Presenting within time limit
Two student evaluators will coach the speaker by: • using the criteria above; and, • completing the Stand and Deliver© Coach’s Evaluation Form
