Overview of Organization
The European Trade Union (ETUI) is a voice of workers in areas where workers are most suppressed. European Trade Union (ETUI) is a single voice that speaks on behalf of European workers and implies a more substantial influence in EU decision-making. The goal of ETU is to improve the overall standard of labor or workers within the society. It works to help workers to recognize themselves and raise their voices. European Trade Union (ETUI) aims to build a community where the well-being and improvement of workers and their families is the priority goal. The organization is working to improve workers' position in society.
The structural and operational processes of the European Trade Union (ETUI) have changed after digitalization. Advancement and growth in the digital platform have created new labor outsourcing and work organization forms. The organization is providing status recognition to laborers and workers across the region. The organization offers social security, training, and safety for laborers that collectively strengthen the organization and help it achieve its goals. Apart from this, the organization is dealing with various issues in social and industrial areas to bring productive solutions. Contributions of the organization at lower and higher levels have been recognized by the government (ETUC, 2022).
Organizational authority or hierarchy is divided into three positions;
i. Congress
ii. Executive committee
iii. Steering committee.
Congress works to determine the organization's general policy. The executive committee comprises representatives of ETUC's member organizations and general participants. In comparison, the steering committee works to implement policies decided by the executive committee. The staff of ETUC is working under these three hierarchies and performing different responsibilities to be successful and achieve desired goals. The list of staff members is vast, which shows the organization is working in a large position to embrace change in society.
The leadership team handles everyday activities at ETUC. The leadership also looks after a relationship with employer organizations and European institutions. The team collaborates at every level and performs tasks to ensure success. The team plans the current and future actions of the European Union and paves ways to complete those plans (ETUC, 2022).
Description of Organization and Issue
The ETUC came into existence in 1973. Through years of hard work, the company successfully established a global network. Today the company comprises 92 national trade union confederations in 29 countries. Apart from this, the company has 10 European trade union federations. ETUC is a large organization, and its network is expanding across the world in countries where workers need protection and coverage of their unrecognized issues. The union's business model focuses on developing democracy and a bright future for Europe's working people. In the annual conferences of the union, an agenda is defined, and throughout the year, the union performs actions according to that agenda and achieves settled goals. The organization is working to maintain the employment infrastructure of Europe by redefining employment policies and advocating a just, transparent, and fair employment industry (ETUC, 2019).
Advancement and development bring innumerable opportunities for people and societies as a whole. However, at the same time, numerous challenges affect individuals and organizations. The European Trade Union is facing a significant issue because of rapid advancement and development within the society. Advancement and innovation in a business organization demand heavy skills and expertise to gain a competitive advantage. However, old workers in the organization lack these skills and expertise. For this reason, employers are hiring freshers by firing old workers, which leads to an increase in the unemployment ratio within the European society. A new system is required in which, instead of firing old workers, teach and train them about the use of new technologies. If a solution is not suggested, millions of workers will be unemployed because organizations hire freshers with advanced skills. In the competitive business market, every business organization aims to have a skilled workforce who contributes to introducing innovation and advancement within the workplace. To solve this issue and keep older employees safe at their positions, ETU is looking for a productive solution (Soros, 2017).
Unions have decided to invest in a green economic model and plan to invest in green economic development. That will not only increase employment opportunities but also ensures sustainable development. Implementation of the green economic model in European societies will improve the living standard of every individual, whether employer or employee. The proposed green economic model would enhance the GDP growth of Europe and benefits its people as a whole. However, to successfully launch this economic model, the contribution of every individual is crucial (Fazio, 2014).
Systems Framework of Employment Relations
The formal and informal employment policies impact employment relations in the industry. Employees are being treated differently based on their social backgrounds, which leads to disturbance in employment relations and affects the productivity of an organization. The objective of ETUC is to talk about employee-employer relations and their responsibilities towards each other. Several external factors affect this relationship, and the most significant factor is policies that promote inequality. Although it is the responsibility of national legislation to address such problems and ensure its workers' safety and security, because of a lack of recognition among national legislative and policymakers, organizations like ETUC are performing their roles. There should be transparent policies ensuring equal employment opportunities for everyone regardless of their gender, social and sexual differences (Gros, 2018).
Lack of understanding among employers is another major factor that impacts the issue. Employers at small-medium and large organizations need to understand that their behavior towards employees impacts their productivity. Current outcomes of the issue are drastic, such as disturbance in employment relations and the environment that affects an organization's ability to achieve its desired goals. Moreover, if the issue is not addressed, future outcomes will be drastic as well.
Conflict
In order to solve the issue, ETUC needs to solve structural and contextual restrictions firsthand. At the structural level, inequality and negative behavior with older workers are being practiced, and laws and policies have no effect. To solve this issue, the immediate need is to make laws effective. Structural management will help implement the proposed solution and contribute to its success.
There are conflicting perceptions about employee positions and their value within an organization, leading to psychogenic behaviors and substantive conflict. Implementing the proposed solution will address the organizational and cognitive problems (ROSE, 2020).
Perspective on Employment Relations
Employees are pillars of the labor market, and negative perceptions about their role in the market affect their perception and motivation to contribute to collective success. Employees are perceived as inferiors based on their social, sexual, and racial orientations perception needs to be changed. The ETUC's objective is to help employers understand that employees are also respectable, and it is their responsibility to respect their talent and contributions to the labor market. Several perspectives on employment relations discuss them to analyze the social issue and its solution—for example, unitarism, pluralism, and Marxism (Budd & Bhave, 2006). The view of each actor differs, and everyone behaves differently based on their perspectives toward employees and employment relations.
Analysis and Potential Solution
To address this issue and help workers achieve a respectable status in society, a potential solution proposed by unions is to focus on employment relations to develop a balanced work environment where everyone can utilize their skills, and their existence could be recognized. Another critical action required is equality for all regardless of any differences. Because of the lack of equality, transparent policies, behavioral management, and recognition, the issue is spreading across other states, and it would be difficult for unions to solve it. This is the best-preferred solution to address workers' employment relations problems and challenges.
Conclusion
To conclude, ETUC is a large-size organization working to improve the social status of workers and unrecognized employees. The union aims to solve the issue of replacing older workers with freshers to intervene in advancement and innovation that will leave millions of employees jobless. Workers in Europe are suppressed because of their social, gender, and sexual identities, which is unfair. In this paper, the issue is discussed, and the solution is proposed to help the union stand for workers and help them achieve equality in employment and society.
