This assignment can give you up to an extra 20% (or up to 100% total, whichever comes first) added to your midterm. Read "On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning" by Haruki Murakami.

Then create a summary-response style 2-3 page reflection. For your reflection, I would like you to spend the first paragraph (1/2-3/4 pg.) summarizing the short story. What is the main theme? What is the heart of this story?

I would then like you to spend the remaining 1.5-2pgs. responding to the story. This response can be how you personally relate to the story. This response can include what this story reminds you of. Basically, I want you to interact with the text in a thoughtful and meaningful manner. This means that you will need to use textual evidence from the actual story (provide quotations and citations) and organize your thoughts using PIE paragraphing. Make sure you carefully proofread.

Remember, this assignment is for a BOOST to your midterm grade, so do your best! You will not simply get points for turning something in - you need to do good work to get extra credit added to your midterm.
