Letter and reflection( 9hours)
Purpose: To practice positive strategies for engaging with donors, to think critically about which strategies work best for different types of organizations, to increase professional writing skills, and to practice planning for fundraising activities.
Task: Students will develop an appeal letter for a nonprofit organization of their choice (the letter should be between half a page to a page in length with double spacing). Additionally, students will prepare a one to two page reflection report answering the following questions related to their donor letter: Who is the target audience? How does your letter appeal to them? Which strategies that you learned in class were used in your appeal letter? What would you suggest as a strategy for distribution of the letter? How would you follow up, and measure the effectiveness of your letter? Next, students will fill in a Fundraising Plan using a template to practice planning for fundraising activities. Students will prepare a short statement to justifying their planning.
Criteria: Letter is professionally written, and clearly applies strategies from course materials. Reflection report answers all of the questions written in the task, and creatively thinks of strategies for distribution, follow up, and measuring effectiveness. Fundraising plan is appropriate given the selected organization’s resources and needs.
I posted the example and the format of donor letter and reflection’s questions.
