For Part 2 of the Teacher Hiring, Selection and Induction assignment, you will draw upon case law, using Nexis Uni to search for relevant court cases, preparing your own case briefs to investigate the legal considerations with regard to hiring, selection and induction of teachers. The last segment of this assignment consists of a reality check in which you will interview your site supervisor, using the interview question included in Steps 1 – 4 of the assignment. After the interview, you will compare your responses to those of your site supervisor during your interview, and then meet with her or him to discuss your results.

Prepare a legal brief of the case/s selected, including (1) the name of the case and its official citation; (2) a statement of the parties; (3) the name of the court from which the decision was appealed: (4) the underlying facts; (5) a statement as to whether the case involves a constitutional, statutory question, or both; (6) a statement of what the issue was, phrased in the form of a question; (7) the court's decision (that is, the answer to the question, as determined by the Supreme Court or appellate court; (8) a statement of the rationale or reasoning the court used in reaching its decision; (9) a statement as to which party won the case, or, if no party won, why; (10) your opinion as to what effect the decision has on educational practice; and (11) a statement as to whether you agree with the outcome of the case and why.
