Directions: Please make sure all your work is done in your own words. Cut and pasted answers directly from the lessons will not be accepted. Read “Common Core Shifts for English Language Arts/Literacy.” For each of the ELA/Literacy shifts listed below, answer the following:
1. What is this shift, and why is this shift needed? 2. What opportunities does this shift present? 3. What challenges does this shift present?

2. Name the Standards
Closely read the ELA and literacy anchor standards on pages 10, 18, 22, and 25 of English Language Arts and Literacy Standards. Describe the anchor standards for each of the following using a phrase of 1 to 5 words.
