Reflective Essay Brief – Autumn 2018

Assignment Title:

What have you discovered – about yourself and about others – in Global Perspectives?

Instructions:

You must submit a well-constructed essay of 2,000 words (+/-10%) on the following:

Drawing on concrete examples from your engagement with at least 75% of the module’s Lead Events and Discussion Groups, reflect on how your understanding of the following has changed:

- The diverse perspectives you have encountered (D1 awareness of others)

- The impact you have on others and the environments you occupy (D2 self-awareness)

- Your own preferences for learning and how you can develop yourself in the future (D3 future development)

Following the model proposed and practiced during the module and Reflection Tasks (weeks 3, 6 and 9), you should show the ability to ‘Describe, Interpret, Verify & Evaluate’, in other words, to base your evaluation of events and others’ actions on careful critical (self-)reflection and consideration of multiple perspectives, rather than on subjective judgements.

Your writing should explicitly show your ability to respond to your tutor’s feedback, and primarily draw on experiences within the module, but can also link to external reference points which relate to the module’s learning outcomes. You are also welcome to consider how your learning on this module impacts your studies within your own discipline.

Don’t forget:

- All writing must be your own work and if you draw on material from different sources or use quotes, Harvard style referencing must be used, with a bibliography to be included at the end of the document.

- You must abide by the word limit (1800-2200 words). If you write less, you will be judged as failing to complete the task in sufficient depth and detail.

- Any submissions that miss the final deadline will be subject to penalties, and if they are more than 3 days late, this will be considered an automatic fail.

- To avoid this risk, please submit your work in good time before the final deadline so you can seek technical assistance if you need it.

- If you have had issues when logging into Blackboard, please contact the IT Service Desk to resolve these to ensure you are able to upload your final submission.

- Remember if there is a genuine technical or IT failure, take a screen shot to prove your claim.
