Overview

It is widely understood it takes 17 years before health research is translated into practice (Morris, Wooding & Grant, 2011) and arguably longer for cultural change to occur in health services (Lakeman, 2012). This assignment asks you critique an area of the literature which you may have undertaken in CLR‘A Critical Review of Self-care for Emotional Distress Among Young Adults

’ and if so, to translate the evidence gathered in your work in CLR in to practice through a description in this paper.

Morris, Z. S., Wooding, S., & Grant, J. (2011). The answer is 17 years, what is the question: understanding time lags in translational research. Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 104(12), 510–520. https://doi.org/10.1258/jrsm.2011.110180

Lakeman, R. (2012). Talking science and wishing for miracles: Understanding cultures of mental health practice. International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, 22(2), 106–115. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1447-0349.2012.00847.x

Assessment details

There are a number of choices of topic available for this assessment.

1) You may use the evidence gathered in assessment The Critical Literature Review from the subject CLR ‘A Critical Review of Self-care for Emotional Distress Among Young Adults’

to write a strategy or plan to implement the findings of your literature review.

2) If you have not done the unit CLR unit, you may choose a topic related to addiction, lived experience of mental illness in the workforce or responses to suicidal behaviour to develop your topic.

3) Alternatively, you may use the below scenario:

You are a senior clinician in a Non Government agency in a rural or remote community which provides services to many Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. You notice that many of the persons your agency cares for are smokers, however there is little intervention offered. You would like to change this and need to convince others it is achievable and worthwhile and move the service toward change

.

Your plan should be written to a governing body, Primary Health Network (PHN), committee or department that oversees where your planned change will take place. The aim of the essay is to identify and justify which model of leadership would allow for the smoothest, most effective and most sustainable transition. You need to choose from the models offered by Mannix, (2015), or Stanley (2008) and state why this model in particular is most suitable in the discussion. Recognition of the likely costs and benefits of the choice should be included in the discussion. You must choose one model.

Suggested headings for your essay are below.

Introduction

Evidence for change

Leadership models

Note: This essay requires you to draw on material which has previously been submitted. You may use your earlier research, however it will need to be re-stated (probably in a much reduced form) for this submission.
