ASSIGNMENT 9: Instruction Set
|
ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW SHOULD BE FOLLOW THE FORMAT AS SAMPLE PAPERS
Technical Writers are often charged with the task of writing instruction sets to help consumers assemble and use everything from electronics to furniture.
We, however, will keep it simple.
To start, read the assignment details on page 36 in your textbook as well as the sample instruction sets that follow. Also consult “Lists in Technical Writing” on pages 172.

Next, go to http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/math-games/tanagram-game/.
Choose an image to assemble using your cyber tangrams. (Choices are in the upper right-hand box. Use the red arrows below it to scroll through available images.)
Once you’ve chosen an image, click “Break Apart.” Now, write a set of instructions that will help someone else assemble the image.
HINT #1: Click “Lines On” to help with shape alignment. Write your instructions within the context of having this feature activated.
HINT #2: Be sure to count how many click you use to rotate a shape. This will be a key part of your instructions.
Be sure to test your instructions before submitting. Because someone else from our class will be attempting to use your instruction set, you may also want to ask a friend to try to assemble the image using your instructions.
