This assignment asks you to write a formal report. You will write an analytical recommendation report. For specific features of such reports, please refer to chapter 11,12 & 13. Each report must include following: Cover Page, Letter of Transmittal, Table of Contents, List of Figures, References, Brief Professional Brief Bio for each Contributor. Each report should use at least 7 sources. Make sure you write up the sources using correct APA format. For help with APA see the OWL at Purdue

The Report:
As a group of 1-4 students, you will collaborate on this report. (If you so choose, you may also work on your own.) You will form your own groups. If you do work in a group, certain portions of the report will be generated as a group whereas others will be developed individually. Even though you will be working on this report as a group, the report needs to look as though a single person had written it. Therefore, you need to agree on visual elements such as font, font size, headings, indentations etc. Make sure that the document looks attractive and has a consistent format.
The length of the report depends on the chosen topic. As a rule of thumb for the group reports, each student’s individual section should be about 750-1000 words long. If a section includes several picture, tables, graphs and other visuals, the word count may be lower. If you do the report alone, then your personal word count will be higher than if you were working with a group.
Team Portion
The team section of your report consists of the front and back matter. See pages 403-410 for details about the front and back matter along with a sample report 414-427. The whole group will work on the front and back matter together. You may not assign one person to write the reference page and the table of contents and list of figures and executive summary. When you submit your report to me, you will submit one print copy of the whole report and each individual will label her individual section.
Individual Section
Each member of the group will be personally responsible for one individual section of the body of the report. You will work out what that section is.
The Report Sections
Front matter:
1. A title page containing four blocks of information
· Title of the report
· Name of the group or organization that receives the report
· Names of group members that prepared the report
· Date on which the report was submitted
2. A letter of transmittal
3. A table of contents
4. A list of figures (separate page from the table of contents)
5. An executive summary
Body of Report
It contains three blocks of information:
A general introduction
The body of your report
· Use subsections clearly identified by headings with information supporting your conclusions and recommendations.
· Keep paragraphs short
· Place data in tables and charts
· Document your sources in accordance with the APA format
· Use visual elements to enhance readability
· Choose a logical document structure
· Address your proposal to a company, agency or person as specified in the prompt. Although you will not be submitting your report as part of your project, you should be able to do so.
· Use common language -- even when describing extremely technical concepts. Your proposal should be clear and understandable, written in language that the audience of your particular proposal would easily comprehend.
A closing that summarizes the main ideas and highlights conclusions and recommendations
Back matter:
· A Reference page that lists the sources you cited in the report. Use the APA format of source documentation.
· Brief Bios for each member of the team
Oral Presentation:
The written portion of this assignment will be accompanied by an oral presentation of 10-15 minutes. Please use a Power Point Presentation or Prezi (number of slides depends on the complexity of the topic) as a visual aid. You need to rehearse your presentation to ensure that you will stay within the allotted time. Even though you will be working on this presentation as a group, the Power Point presentation should look as though a single person had designed it.
Each student presents on the body section of the written report that he or she developed. In class, we will discuss the elements of a long report as well as aspects of a well-delivered oral presentation. You will be graded not only on content, but also on elements such as fluency, clarity, and audience awareness.
Grading:
The written report is worth 20% of your class grade.
The oral presentation is worth 5% of your class grade.
Your grade on the written portion of the assignment is computed as follows:
Grade for the front and back matter,
general introduction, and conclusion 20%
Grade for collaboration 20%
(e.g. punctuality, reliability, constructive ideas,
conflict resolution, extra tasks given by group members)
Grade for individual section 60%
Due dates: Please see the syllabus for the due date of the written report. A sign-up sheet for the oral presentations will be made available at the beginning of the project. Oral presentations cannot be made up. If you are not present on the day of your group’s presentation, you will receive a grade of E for the presentation.
