The primary concern of a rough draft is to ensure that the essay's organization is good, that the development is sufficient to support the claims made in the thesis, and that the essay follows through with every point it raises.  Grammar is a concern for later drafts. Therefore, for this assignment only, I will not be marking grammatical issues not counting grammatical issues towards the overall assignment grade. However, on the ENGL 1301 final submission, grammar will be a major grade component.  You will still need to proofread and edit this draft for grammar even after I have scored it.  High marks on this rough draft assignment are

not a guarantee of high marks on your ENGL 1301 final submission.

Writing Approach

Knowing how to brainstorm is going to save you from writing a weak essay. Also, knowing how to support your claims with evidence from outside sources will further strengthen your essay. For that reason, this assignment requires the use of three references/sources. In addition, you will add a Works Cited page at the end of your essay. Finally, your Works Cited page will be in MLA (Modern Language Association) format so that all information provided will be easy for your reader to find.
