EGL 1320 [ASSIGNMENT 5:RESUME/COVER LETTER]

You are to analyze the scenario given below and type a Resume/Cover Letter combo that is professional and

gets the message across adequately—through use of all writing and formatting strategies in chapter 13.

This assignment is due (via BlackBoard) by 11:59 pm on the day the schedule dictates

Scenario:

It’s job search time! Whether you are currently searching for a job or not, this assignment requires that you

search “big boards” (indeed.com, careerbuilder.com, etc) for a job that either you would want to begin at very

soon, or a job that you would like to work at someday. You will then “apply” for the job by determining what

type of resume will help you get that job, constructing a resume that highlights relevant skills and education,

and writing a cover letter that seeks to win an interview with that company.

Your Task:

This assignment has three steps:

1) Find a job that interests you 2) Create and tailor a resume to that job—DO NOT MAKE UP INFORMATION. THE RESUME

SHOULD BE WRITTEN TO WHERE YOU ARE CURRENTLY AT IN LIFE

3) Write a cover letter to be sent with the resume.

(Note: whether or not you actually send this information TO the employer is up to you. If you really like the job

you find, send away, but it’s not required).

Thus, your assignment should have three separate ingredients—BUT IT SHOULD ALL TOGETHER IN

ONE DOCUMENT:

1) A copy of the job posting (printed webpage, screen cap, etc) 2) Resume that does NOT EXCEED TWO PAGES—no references necessary 3) A cover letter that does NOT EXCEED ONE PAGE
