Emergency Response Plan

Assignment 4

Select a potential hazard you can think of on a construction site and write an emergency response procedure for that hazard. You should describe responsibilities of the team members in case of an emergency, training requirement for handling such hazard, reporting and evacuation procedures.

Week 4 Discussion: Question

Discussion Questions

1. When, what and who should investigate accidents and why should they be investigated?

2. Robert Martin and Andrew Morgan are construction superintendents for Baker Construction Company (BCC). The home office for BCC is in Orlando, Florida, but the company has projects in 12 states. Each project has its own superintendent. Martin and Morgan are attending a quarterly meeting at the home office with all of the company’s construction superintendents. During a coffee break earlier in the day, they had gotten into a debate over the need for emergency plans. Martin summarized his point of view as follows: “Emergency planning is a waste of time and scarce resources. Chances are less than one in a thousand that an emergency will even occur. But if an emergency situation does occur, all we have to do is call 911.” Morgan disagreed. He summarized his point of view as follows: “We need to have a comprehensive plan for emergency response that is standardized company-wide and that can be easily customized for each job site. Furthermore, we need to drill our employees in the proper execution of the plan until the proper emergency response becomes automatic.” Join this debate. Who is right? Why?
