Pick 1 leader that meets both Transformational and Servant Leadership Criteria
Pick Someone You Respect!
Pick a leader that you look at as a model leader, not someone you think I will like
Pick a famous leader that you want to be like, not someone your parents want you to be like
This assignment, like all other assignments is to challenge you to reflect on yourself
Think about how the leader you chose reflects your personal priorities, beliefs and desires.
Give a 30 second history of who they are and their accomplishments
Give a brief (30 Seconds maximum) description of who they are and why they are famous
You are not telling their whole life story or their leadership styles here
This is just a “What they are known for slide” for instance: Elon Musk:
He is an entrepreneur famous for being the CEO of Tesla and making it a world leader in Electric Cars.
He is also famous for the Boring Company (Creating tunnels and tech gadgets like a flame thrower for people)
He is also famous for SpaceX (Wanting to colonize mars and developing new space travel technology)
Then outline how they model transformational leadership principles and servant leadership principles using evidence from their life.
Use the 4 I’s of Transformational Leadership and give examples of how your leader demonstrates those in their field
Outline how the leader embodies Bass’s (1985, 1990, Bass & Avolio, 1993, 1994 as cited in Northouse 2019) Four Factors of Transformational Leadership.
Use the 10 characteristics of a servant leader. You will not have time to provide evidence of all of those, but pick a few (3-4) and describe how your leader demonstrates those characteristics
Outline how the leader demonstrates Spears (2002, as cited in Northouse, 2019) Ten Characteristics of a Servant Leader.
What other characteristics make them a good leader?
What weaknesses reveal their humanity?
The presentation will be 4 minutes and presentation slides are required.
Keep your notes short
Do not read directly from the slide. I can read your slides, you need to explain them to me (Think about what I do in class)!
Use quotes, pictures, a variety of things as evidence
These examples can be from their life, writing, the media, how they run a business, what ever you think provides evidence of the Transformational Leadership Factors (4 I’s) and Servant Leader Characteristics (10 Characteristics)
You will have 4 minutes maximum, I will cut you off if you take too long as our class will likely take the whole 3 hours.
