Assignment for SOC 450
Assignment 3b: Threats to the Global Environment Counterargument
The members of the United Nations are impressed by your presentation. The information you provided has led to productive debates. There are now questions about prioritizing the issues at hand. Some of the countries are challenging your recommendations and questioning your reasons for not including certain other issues they believe are priorities.
There are four remaining threats in the list of major global issues. Review the topics and reflect on two that you did not use in Assignment 3a. Defend your reasons for considering these topics to be less important than the issues you assessed in Assignment 3a.

ENERGY SOURCES
In the last two decades, the global energy consumption has continually risen as a result of a series of economic expansions in different countries. This has been majorly pioneered by fossil energy which provides for eighty percent of the worlds total energy consumption.
As the quest for fossil energy increases, the need to provide more of the energy source, driven by economic interests has led to increased levels of mining, which has gradually affected the environment.
Mining has led to major land, air and water pollution across the world as a result of the increased quest for fossil energy which releases high carbon levels to the atmosphere.

COUNTRIES AFFECTED
Global pollution as a result of fossil fuels extraction and usage is evident across many countries in the world. Some of the greatly affected countries include Congo, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Most of these countries pollution is in the form of air pollution as a result of releasing mining gases to the atmosphere as well as burning of fossil fuels which increase carbon levels in the atmosphere.
Health problems among the populations of these countries as a result of breathing some of these poisonous gases are on the rise. In addition, threats to marine life as a result of dumping some of the waste energy products into the rivers and lakes is prominent.
Death tolls are also on the rise as a result of many body complications associated with living in a polluted environment. This has mainly been caused by use of polluted water, consuming food from polluted soil and so forth.
4
THE EFFECT OF FOSSIL FUEL USE TO THE WORLD POPULATION.
Unlike on land, where demarcating lines dictate who enters and who does not, the entire world breathe from the entire atmosphere. As a result, pollution from one part of the globe affects everyone in the world.
The increased carbon levels in the atmosphere has continuously increased temperature levels around the globe thereby leading to various environmental imbalances in the form of weather seasons unpredictability.
In addition, increased carbon levels in the atmosphere are constantly depleting the ozone layer which covers us from harmful sun rays. This has had very negative effects on the planet ranging from plants, animals and people.
CIVIL WAR
Civil war has continually claimed the lives of more and more people globally with far reaching consequences.
The acts of civil wars have been found to extend far beyond death in the battle in the form of forced migration, infrastructure destruction as well as stopping development.
While civil wars are normally as a result of conflicts of interests among the citizens in a particular country, its effects are felt far beyond the borders of that country.
Destruction of social, economic as well as political systems put a country into a stand still and as a result the entire country's economy may collapse.
A country's development is stopped and as a result, a country is dipped into numerous problems in terms of hunger, insecurity, gender inequality as well as lack of education.
6
COUNTRIES AFFECTED
Different countries in the world are continually experiencing civil wars. This is continually opposing the development of these countries.
Some of the countries affected by civil war in the world include Somalia, Sudan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen and so forth.
These conflicts have continued to jeopardize peace resolutions among these countries thereby presenting a major milestone to the stoppage of these wars.
Also, democracy has been greatly threatened among these countries and the rule of the land is never followed in their doings.
Over the years, the death toll as a result of civil war has been rising with at least a 0.005% margin.

EFFECTS OF CIVIL WAR TO THE WORLDS POPULATION
Civil war has constantly presented major challenges to the entire world population in every occurrence.
Global population decrease as a result of the unnecessary deaths due to war that leaves many suffering after losing parents, children, friends and relatives.
In addition, civil war has led to homelessness among people as a result of the forced migration to other countries.
Major challenges have also been presented to the global economic development plans as a result of the war. Also, democratic relations among nations are continually weakened by acts of war in a country.
Economic inequalities as a result of increased refugees in other neighboring countries has continuously slowed the economic growth in these countries.

INAPROPRIATE USES OF TECHNOLOGY
With the rising technological usage during the twenty-first century, acts of crime perpetrated through technology are also on the rise. According to Internet World Stats, internet use has gradually increased with more than half of the population now using the internet.
Technology users have a responsibility of using technology in the right way and without causing harm to others through their technology use.
Unauthorized access, cyber bullying, stalking are some of the prevalent issues associated with the inappropriate use of technology which have led to crime convictions in the recent past.
Deaths as a result of inappropriate technological use has also been observed where other technology users incite others to commit suicide.
It is therefore evident that increased technological use has also been accompanied with some crimes being conducted through it.

COUNTRIES AFFECTED
Inappropriate technology use has affected many countries around the globe including South Africa, United States, India and China.
Although many other countries are affected by the same, the four countries have been identified with higher levels of inappropriate technology use than others in the world. Hacking has become common where people take advantage of technology vulnerabilities in inflicting harm to others as well as stealing money or information.
The threat of inappropriate use of technology remains active to every nation as controlling technology use among people has continually been faced with challenges in the form of invading other peoples privacy and so forth. This is continually shutting down any efforts involved in trying to eliminate this threat.
THE EFFECT OF INAPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY USE TO THE WORLD POPULATION.
As the world is heavily relying on the use of technology in various aspects, improper use of the same presents a major challenge to the global environment.
Global increase in average losses among businesses has occurred as a result of financial fraud in businesses. This increase in losses has been associated with the fraudulent activities committed by criminals through the use of technology.
Fear has been inflicted to the world population internet users who fear loosing money to the criminals who propagate malicious intentions through the internet.
As a result, many global investors shy away from investing their money as they do not have complete trust in different banking systems in the internet.
POOR HEALTH OF ENTIRE POPULATIONS
Poor health is a challenge which has continued to dominate the population for a long time. Poor health has been linked to poor dietary decisions among people as well as lack of physical exercise.
Apart from poor nutrition, most of the global population has continually lacked a medical insurance cover.
According to research conducted by Global Burden of Disease Study in 2013, one out of every twenty people reported to not to have any form of health problem. This translates to only a five percent healthy global population with the other ninety five percent suffering from illnesses.
Therefore, it is evident that the world population is not healthy which has always presented a major challenge to human life.

COUNTRIES AFFECTED BY POOR HEALTH
Poor health has been a problem of the entire global population, with some having good medical care systems while others lacking the same.
The developing countries including Angola, Algeria, Afghanistan and Armenia are among the most affected by poor health, as a result of poor economic conditions as well as lack of effective health systems.
Close links between these countries poor health and the environment has consistently shown a connection between the two factors.
Most of these countries are suffering from significant environmental pollution which is the major contributor of poor health. Also, poor diet as well as lack of food has also proved to be behind these countries poor health.
EFFECT OF POOR HEALTH ON WORLDS POPULATION
Globally, food and nutrition have remained to be the major determinants of health. With the exclusion of developed countries, the developing countries can improve their health through food security.
This is due to the fact that most of the health problems they experience are mainly malnutrition related.
However, apart from malnutrition problems in the developing countries, global environmental changes as a result of pollution has continued to increase disease prevalence among people of different social classes in the economy.
Therefore, apart from improving healthcare systems, there is need for environmental conservation as through this, we are ale to prevent many illnesses
