Speech Assignment #3

An elevator speech is a brief, focused oral presentation used to sell or “pitch” yourself, an idea, a product, or service to a prospective employer, investor, client, customer, etc. Elevator speeches may be as short as a few seconds or as long as a few minutes. The audience for an elevator speech may be one person or a small group and is usually someone you don’t know, don’t know very well, or haven’t seen for awhile. Opportunities for giving an elevator speech may be planned or may come unexpectedly in business or social settings.

Develop a minimum of 3 minute elevator speech to include questions and answers for one of the following scenarios.

An interview for your dream job or dream employer (can be in the form of an elevator speech)

A pitch to an angel investor for start-up funds

An interview for admission to graduate school

A scenario of your own choice (needs prior approval)

Deliver your speech to the class on the assigned day for Student Presentations.

Make sure you dress the part as a professional engineer (See Grading Rubric)

Submit a script of your speech to the TA/Professor by beginning of class – See Syllabus Schedule (note: submitting earlier is better)

Script may be in form of indented outline
