Reporting Disasters on Media

There have been numerous disasters across the United States, ranging from earthquakes to hurricanes and the recent wildfires in California. During the tragedies, the US and global media have been at the forefront of reporting all the events. Specifically, the essay looks at two memorable disasters that include floods from Bomb Cyclone in Mississippi valley and Hurricane Michael in Florida. The bomb cyclone in 2019 happened in 2019 was a powerful late winter hurricane that was strapped into the US Midwest and the great lake regions initiating flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers (Aase, 2020). The Mississippi flooding stranded herds of cattle as well, raising the alarm at a Nebraska power plant.

Similarly, Hurricane Michael in Florida occurred in 2018. It was the toughest recorded to create landfall in Florida Panhandle. According to National Weather Service, the hurricane happened with extreme continued winds of 160mph and a slight pressure of 919 minibars. It is reported that hurricane Michael ended a landfall near Tyndall Air Force Base, impartial southern of Panama City.

Media has been at the core of raising the alarm on potential disasters and reporting the magnitude of their impacts. For instance, a Bomb cyclone in Mississippi, US, was reported with BBC news media as it disoriented activities in the region and led to several Americans' death. In CNN news, it was highlighted in bold 'Bomb cyclone' triggers flooding and forces evacuation in parts of Lowe' (Aase, 2020). It is further reported that an influential 'bomb cyclone' that banged Colorado with snow and storm-force winds is threatening cities in the central United States with substantial rains, drowning, and even hurricanes. It is also reported that the center of the storm was over Lowe and Nebraska and continued conveying dangerous weather circumstances to 105 million people who are undersized of the lookout, caution, or counseling as the disaster moved towards the east and the north of Canada (Aase, 2020).

Similarly, in the New York Times paper, the reports the disaster by highlighting head in bold 'Strong Winter Storm Classifies as 'Bomb Cyclone' in Colorado.' The author reports that the meteorologists said a strong winter storm hit Colorado and other parts of the Central United States, distributing hurricane-force winds and substantial snow through the region (Aase, 2020). The author similarly reports the National Weather Service said the violent winter weather, part of which is confidential as a 'bomb cyclone' thrashed Denver and others areas in Colorado.

Conclusively, in the BBC news, hurricane Michael in Florida 2018 is highlighted in bold as 'US hurricane was strongest in 26 years. It is reported in 2019 that last year's Hurricane Michael was advanced to category five, only the fourth part snowstorm to hit the US. It was also highlighted that peoples from Mexico City were returning to homes demolished by Hurricane Michael (Aase, 2020). The New York Times paper is highlighted in bold 'New York Today: Hurricane Michael Effects.' The author reports that what is left of a hurricane is presently temporary to the south while the city evaded the direct landfall. It is further reported that the hurricane's outer bands and winds may scuff the outer parts of Mexico City. In the CNN news, it is highlighted in bold that 'scientists now say Hurricane Michael was category five at the time US landfall' (Aase, 2020). A scientist reported that Hurricane Michael barreled in Florida triggered 16 deaths, and around $25 million was spoiled by the disaster conferring to Hurricane center. Additionally, the reporter said the hurricane was linked to 43 indirect deaths in Florida.

Adequate and appropriate ways are essential for news media coverage in presenting news on tragic events. Media presenters must be equipped for the future with cultural responsiveness to practical and considerately report on natural disasters. First, the media presenter should learn to cross-cultural boundaries to report disasters. Cross-cultural boundaries ensure the media presentation coverage is well started (Sturm, 2017). Crossing cultural boundaries are appropriate where media groups worldwide join local news experts to report rapidly growing stories to international audiences. Many recent media reporters use internet knowledge and public media to take faraway information at home. It makes it easier to understand the disaster being covered (Sturm, 2017). It also allows much collaboration with those trapped in the tragedy. Media presenters must therefore learn much about crossing cultural boundaries and using the new technologies to explaining disasters. The media should also learn how to escalate awareness and thoughtfulness when reporting disasters surrounding different cultures.

Changing the media industry can also lead to accurate reporting of disaster events. The media industry has been redefined by modification and technology (Sturm, 2017). Media groups have been responding to technology variations, which have changed the way people receive media reports. For this reason, a media moving with technological advancement will gain appropriate ways of reporting disasters.

For how the two disasters were reported in the US, the BBC, CNN, and New York Times news presenters, the media groups should improve cultural boundaries awareness. Understanding ensures different audiences comprehend the news reported through the world from diverse backgrounds (Sturm, 2017). The media groups also must sustain people in the reporting process to understand the dangers and their significant role in protecting themselves and being more robust. Any organization or government requires essential media that helps reduce the risk of the disaster and creating awareness through planned reporting to avoid confusion.

Similarly, the New York Times paper, BBC, and CNN media groups should adapt to the changing media industries to ensure the intended information on reporting disasters is accurately presented. This will further ensure the media groups provide cherished information through recent technologists such as the internet quickly (Sturm, 2017). It will also ensure the media groups initiates awareness to those outside affected areas generating volunteers who may financially assist the affected population.

In summing up, different media groups are used to report disasters in the United States, including CNN, BBC, and New York Times paper. The way the news on the selected disasters is presented shows that there should be appropriate ways to report the data (Gearing, 2019). Examining the three media presenters, one of the proper ways to move on is by incorporating cultural boundaries in their reporting and adopting the changing media industry by using technology to advance the reporting process.
