Income inequality and poverty
Social Problems Project: Assignment 2
INCOME INEQUALITY
Using the Current Population Report on Income and Poverty 2018 (provided for you on Canvas), present the following facts in your presentation:
1. What was the overall median household income in 2018? (Use Table A-1, p25 for this section; Report your answer in a complete sentence)
2. What does “median” mean? Why use this number?
Instructions
Study Table A-1 (p25), focusing on 2018 data, in the Current Population report and identify the variation found for the different characteristics presented.
For example: For the characteristic “Type of Household”, in 2018, family households in general have a significantly higher median income than non-family households. Family households had a median income of $80,663 as compared to $38,112 for non-family households (a difference of $42,551).
Note: this is an instruction slide only; remove from your final project
Instructions: Presenting the facts
Instructions: Focusing on 2018 data only, present 5 facts on INCOME INEQUALITY after analyzing Table A-1 in the Current Population Report.
Each one must analyze a different characteristic in the table. Use complete sentences and support all statements with data from the table (refer back to the previous slide for an example of a fact—you can not use the one from the previous slide regarding differences in income by type of household).
Note: As with all previous slides, remove the instructions from this slide and you can use more than one slide to complete this section.
