Child care also known as daycare refers to care and supervision of a child or multiple children by a person or organization at a time parents are at work or absent for another reason. Child care is the action or skill of looking after children by a facility that helps parents to do so. Teachers, baby sitters, nannies, and other providers work at this place to take care of the child. Early child care is an important component of child development. Early childhood care also provides valuable support to families with young children. Quality care from a young age has a considerable impact on the future successes of children. The main focus of child care is on the development of the child which can be social, mental or psychological. Understanding the impact of these services is important for the purpose of ensuring their quality and accessibility. High-quality child care has a positive impact on school readiness by providing valuable social and educational experiences.

In these days, finding the right child care is a challenge facing women. Finding childcare is wide since it covers the wide spectrum of professional, institution, activities, contracts, social and cultural conventions. Finding quality childcare is not easy for every parent and is also a stressful job. Many women struggle with balancing work with young children. After deciding to go back to work, they face challenges in finding quality care for their children. As a mother of two and a half months old I can understand how hard the situation is when we cannot go back to work if we don’t find any better childcare for my little girl. There are various problems associated with finding childcare. These problems are like how do I take my child, how do I pick the right place particularly when it’s our first child and we haven’t done that before and what’re the criteria that used to select this person. We always need to find a daycare that is easily commutable. Some parents prefer their child to be close to home in order to travel from work towards home to pick up their children. Others prefer their children to be close to their work in order to be in a position to take a lunch break or any other type of break in case their children have an appointment. After they take their children to the scheduled appointment, they drop them back at daycare and go back to work.

Every state has a certification process regardless of whether it in-home daycare or certified centers. This is meant to ensure that they have their certification and the number of kids they have. Centers that are certified by state requirement are randomly audited for cleanliness, the kind of food they feed the kids, the kind of activities they provide for the child and the kind of safety measures they take. Therefore, they must be certified and audited by someone. I prefer choosing child care within my budget because there may be problems if it becomes out of my budget and thus forcing me to pull my child out of that place. Child care providers should provide good discipline because children need discipline. They should, therefore, create a home environment that is parental style.

Working parents are experiencing difficult situations since they try to decide whether to go to work or stay with their children at home. We, therefore, experience much stress in trying to decide who is good enough to take care of our children. There is no one is going to be as good as us and no one is going to love child as much as we mothers. However, there are people who have a genuine love for children and genuinely want to care for children (Honig, 1995).

Finding quality child care can be done by asking for referrals. When I decided to go back to work, I asked my fellow mamas for referrals of the best daycare. I was aware that there are some that operate in the gray area of the law. I did research to know the best day care in order to gain confidence about its level of care. The only way to know daycare better is by spending a day or two with a caregiver and talking to other families. Before choosing a daycare, you can first read the contract because they work differently. Some daycares are super flexible and thus allow pay on days needed. There are others that charge mothers for being late to pick up their children. The mode of payment is also important to allow you to plan accordingly. Some allow mothers to pay the same amount every week while others on a daily basis (Pungello & Kurtz-Costes, 1999).

Checking out the centers in person helps in narrowing down to the best choice. If we find something now right, it means that this center is not right for our kids. Before making a final choice, stopping unexpectedly to get a true picture of the daycare is. When we realize that they do not allow unscheduled visits, there is a need to disqualify it.
