ACA Code of Ethics

The purpose of this work is to identify how ethics is utilized by counselors and group workers in the community setting and what roles they play. For one to have an ethical commitment, there is a need to have professional values that enhance human development throughout the life span and also promote social justice. I will also discuss the various strategies used in group work that facilitate courageous conversations.

Role of Counsellors in Community

Counselors are prohibited from engaging in counseling relationships that they are unable to remain objective. This may include family members and friends where their role is to solve disputes in a relationship which may be hard to make decisions. It is the role of a counselor n taking reasonable precautions in protecting clients from physical and emotional trauma. Counselors are always supposed to be with their clients thus they should not abandon or neglect them even after termination of the counseling process. Counselors help people by sharing professional information with no financial return. (Kaplan, 2017)

Importance of ACA Code of Ethics

Through group counseling, people can express their thoughts and feelings to specific activities and things. Using the ACA code of ethics in group counseling enables people to accept and get to understand the limitations in a relationship. It is possible to set standards to work to in group counseling through using the ACA code of ethics.

Different Ethic Codes

Ethical codes may include confidentiality and privacy where counselors need to safeguard their client's rights. In a group, counseling trust is the key and the counselors are responsible for maintaining a trustworthy partnership. It is advisable to share with the group whether their information has been shared with anyone. Another ethical code is professional responsibility where it says that all counseling practices and treatments should be grounded in research. (Kolic' Stanic' Matilda, 2019)

Strategies Used in Ethics

Develop multicultural and social justice competencies strategy is necessary for group workers as it creates awareness to them by enabling them in driving group cohesion and also they can understand group member roles and the need for sharing. In the case of a nurse, he/she serves as a patient advocate thus through lack of understanding of whether cultural or language barrier would affect their ability to effectively care for a patient. This strategy can be used in creating relationships enabling us to understand one another without affecting other people's feelings. It relates to other strategies as they all talk about social justice change.

Using engage in intentional unity building strategy can be necessary for creating awareness as groups are being designed and implemented hence promoting peace. This strategy creates awareness in groups by enabling one to understand others' perspectives and hence developing shared meaning. An example where one can build unity is in the case of a classroom, where one may engage people in a group discussion by not considering each other potential and performance. This strategy relates to strategy number three where in both cases, there is a creation of spaces that are necessary for promoting genuine understanding.

The use of lean-in and keep going strategy can be used in creating awareness to group members where in this case there is an increased number of interactions and social positioning. Through dialogues and interactions in group members enables members to become more aware of their similarities hence should be used in creating awareness. An example of a lean in strategy is where one tracks his weight by taking pictures on daily basis. In the real world group setting lean in and keep going strategy can be applied in setting strategy for holiday destinations. This strategy relates to strategy number 9 in the view of making decisions. (Lorraine J. Guth, 2018)
