Assignment 2 – Management Information Systems

With what you have learned up to this point, write an essay1 about the following:

You have been given assigned to an important project in your organization. You have to come up

with a plan to implement an Information System to join all the departments in your organization

(HR, Accounting, Sales/Marketing, Operations and IT are some of the possible departments you

may have, there may be less or more). The information system will be either provided by a

third-party company (such as Peoplesoft or Workday) or it will be created entirely from scratch.

You will have to decide what works best for your organization and present documentation to

support your decisions2.

Your first objective is to find all that will be needed to be done in order to fulfil this task. Come

up with a plan regarding the requirements of your organization and state why you believe this

would be the best way to do so.

Next you should provide a timeline (a paragraph or a diagram) stating how long you believe the

project would take and the steps you believe necessary for the successful implementation of the

information system.

Questions to guide your search:

- What are the requirements? Who do you get them from?

- What kind of data are you storing? Where will you store this data?

- Who will use the system?

- What problems do you think will come up when setting it up?

- Who should be involved in the process? Why?

- How will you manage training?

- What happens after the implementation of the information system?

You will be graded according to the following rules:

- Write in accordance to the rules specified by the APA style

- Source references must be cited in APA style (must have at least two references)

- Grammar; you must form coherent sentences and avoid run-ons, misspelled words and

have an even flow of ideas throughout your essay (think introduction, several idea

paragraphs, conclusion).
