ASSIGNMENT 25
ASSIGNMENT 1---due Wednesday at 10:20 am
Deshawn is a competent teacher and is well versed in Discrete Trial Training. When Deshawn asks Johnny (a student with ASD) to point to a card with an image that matches Deshawn’s spoken instruction Johnny spits, pinches, screams and attempts to throw the stimuli card. Deshawn knows that he should not allow Johnny to escape the task or he will reinforce the negative behavior so he entices compliance with access to a preferred item (first work, then firetruck). However, once the preferred activity loses value, Johnny’s compliance significantly regresses and Deshawn once again is in search of more attractive motivators for Johnny.
Why is this approach to research problematic? What effect can the environment have on both appropriate and inappropriate behaviors? Who is responsible for the environment? How can Deshawn combine antecedent-based interventions with consequence based instruction?
The thread should be 420– words and 3–5 paragraphs in length. THE thread should be supported with at least 2 sources in APA format.
