Purpose Statement and Anotated Bib

Assignment #1

Write a 300-word purpose statement for your research proposal.  Include in your purpose statement a research question for your research proposal.  Students are strongly encouraged to send the instructor a first draft of the question via email at least three days prior to the deadline for feedback.  This kind of refinement will be helpful as you seek to craft a research question that is good and appropriate for your proposal.  This assignment will be graded on content, adherence to APA style, and English grammar and usage. 

Research questions can be

1. Should athletic department be allowed to pay student athletes as work study participants 

2. Does having a good athletic department help or harm overall school achievement 

Assignment #2

Find five scholarly articles related to your chosen research topic, articles which might ultimately be included as part of a literature review.  Write a 200-word abstract for each of the five articles.  Your written abstracts must not be similar to any abstracts included as part of your articles—use your own words.  Begin each abstract with a reference listing in APA style.  Be sure to include at the end of each abstract a listing of key words and phrases that will serve as the building blocks of your research map.  Include all seven abstracts in one document.  This assignment will be graded on adherence to APA style and English grammar and usage.
