Research the Population Group. This section details the information that should be included in each group member’s target population research discussion post for Project Part 2. Each section described below should be 1-2 paragraphs long.

1. Physical Activity Levels: Research the physical activity levels of your target population. Provide statistics for the physical activity level of your group's target population. The links below are provided as examples of places to find statistics. You are not limited to these sources:

o CDC U.S. Physical Activity Statistics (adult physical activity by demographic categories).

o CDC Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance (resource for high school age physical activity by demographic categories).

o University of Illinois Library Health Statistics and Data Resources (general link to data/statistics from the library).

o Any peer-reviewed/academic journal article can also be used as a resource. If you are unsure how to identify and find peer-reviewed articles, please consult the University of Illinois Library Guide to Using Refereed/Peer-Reviewed Research.

o Popular sources (e.g., news articles, magazine articles, other non-governmental or non-peer reviewed sources online) should not be used for this part of the project.

o If you have questions about finding a source or whether or not your source is appropriate, please ask your instructor.

2. Benefits Assessment: Describe the benefits your target population will receive from engaging in physical activity. Any peer-reviewed/academic journal article can also be used as a resource. If you are unsure how to identify and find peer-reviewed articles, please consult the University of Illinois Library Guide to Using Refereed/Peer-Reviewed Research. Popular sources (e.g., news articles, magazine articles, other non-governmental or non-peer reviewed sources online) should not be used for this part of the project.

3. Message Proposal: Describe at least three messages that you want to convey to your target population through your group’s PSA. For example, if your target population was older adults, one message might be that being physically active reduces the risks of falling. If you are targeting teenagers, a message might be that playing sports with friends is a great way to be physically active.
