Assessment Task (Learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5)

This assignment counts for 40% of the total grade for this module. Create a 20 minute narrated presentation on a project of your choice from your organisation, or one you are familiar with. This assignment gives you an opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills in project management analytics. You will be able to apply theories and concepts learnt from this module to measuring project performance and providing recommendations for its improvement. The analysis will be based on the state of the art approaches to business analysis which specifically include:

• Stakeholder management

• Project value measurement

• Efficient dashboard design NB: Organisation name, other business or stakeholder particulars and any personally identifiable information can be fully anonymised.

If you are re-sitting this assessment for the first time, you may re-work your original

submission if you wish. However, if this is your third attempt at this assessment, you

must submit a piece of work which is substantially different from your first two

attempts.

Your presentation must communicate project performance to an external

stakeholder of your choice. It should not exceed 20 min in duration. It will include the

following elements.

Question 1 (Learning outcome 1)

Provide a brief description of the company background and project objectives.

20 marks

Question 2 (Learning outcome 2)

Analyse the project value from both the organisational and stakeholder point-of-view. 40 marks

Question 3 (Learning outcomes 3, 4 and 5)

Discuss the project performance using a dashboard developed specifically for the stakeholder in question. Note: this may not be a generic one-fits-all dashboard. As discussed in the module, a corporate dashboard should have multiple facets each designed for a particular stakeholder or group of stakeholders.

40 marks

How to submit your presentation Please read the following instructions very carefully and ask your tutor if you do not fully understand what is required. Your PowerPoint presentation with voice over should be submitted into the ‘upload your Narrated Presentation’ area in iLearn. Your PowerPoint presentation should also be formatted as a Notes Page and then embedded into a single word or pdf file. This can be done as follows: Once you have prepared your PowerPoint, format the slides as notes pages; go to VIEW menu and select ‘Notes Page’. Then, go to the FILE menu, click ‘Save As’ and then select ‘Pictures’; this will save each Notes Page as a separate JPEG or TIFF file. These can then be copied and pasted into your Word file for submission. This file will then be submitted in the normal way into the submission port in iLearn

(‘Submit Presentation’).

Formative Feedback

You have the opportunity to submit an outline and up to 50% of each task to receive

formative feedback.

The feedback is designed to help you develop areas of your work and it helps you develop your skills as an independent learner. If you are a distance learning student, you should submit your work, by email, to your

tutor, no later than 2 weeks before the actual submission deadline. If you are a blended

learning student, your tutor will give you a deadline for formative feedback and further

details.

Formative feedback will not be given to work submitted after the above date or the date

specified by your tutor - if a blended learning student

Assessment Criteria (Learning objectives covered - all)

Level 7 is characterised by an expectation of students’ expertise in their specialism. Students are semi-autonomous, demonstrating independence in the negotiation of assessment tasks (including the major project) and the ability to evaluate, challenge, modify and develop theory and practice. Students are expected to demonstrate an ability to isolate and focus on the significant features of problems and to offer synthetic and coherent solutions, with some students producing original or innovative work in their specialism that is potentially worthy of publication by Arden University. A clear appreciation of ethical considerations (as appropriate) is also a prerequisite.
