Part 3: Windows 10 Upgrade Risk Factors

Upgrading multiple PCs for a business, while possible, has its risks. Some of these risks include hardware, licensing, application compatibility, upgrade vs. clean install, and others. Two most relevant issues to consider for this project are hardware, and application compatibility. These two are very important, because you need the correct hardware for the upgrade, and your existing applications should be able to run on the new version of windows. Besides, licensing can be taking care of, and Clean/install won’t work without the correct hardware and/or compatibility with the existing applications.

Hardware

You need to have the minimum hardware requirements for the upgrade to be successful. This includes the CPU, enough RAM, sufficient Hard disk, the right Video adapter, and a Compatible network interface card, among others. You also need the proper Windows 10 device drivers for your hardware. Without these, the upgrade can’t take place.

Application compatibility

Lots of applications written for earlier versions of Windows will not work with Windows 10. So, it is important to check application compatibility, before installing or upgrading to Windows 10. It is good to find out the which versions of a program or applications are compatible with the operating system and whether updates will be released.
