RTI & EBP/Effective and Ineffective Strategies
Assignment 2 - You will complete this assignment using your Assignment 1 as a starting point. You will expand upon the literature you examined in Assignment 1 and identify 3 effective and 3 ineffective strategies or practices. Your paper should examine three effective strategies and research that supports their effectiveness. You will also discuss the impediments related to using these effective strategies. You will discuss three ineffective strategies and include research on why the strategies you selected are ineffective. You will also discuss why some teachers continue to use ineffective strategies. These practices may be used with students with disabilities in classrooms, at home, or in community settings. This assignment will use the Assignment Rubric.
As in Assignment 1, the paper should be based on the professional literature and not your personal opinion. Also, no personal pronouns - write in a professional manner. No problem if you use the effective strategies you used in Assignment 1, but please edit to make sure that the examination of the literature is thorough, and you have included impediments to their use. This means that Assignment 1 will need some editing before using it in Assignment 2. Further, you will already have submitted feedback on Assignment 1 and will have useful feedback on writing style, the use of APA, and the efficacy of interventions. So, in writing Assignment 2, you will have the advantage of some feedback from a prior assignment.
The reason these assignments are constructed in this manner is to give you multiple opportunities to do well on the assignment. Grading on Assignment 2 will be more critical because you have had the opportunity to complete a previous paper with some of the same content. As a result, the expectation is that your depth of knowledge, use of professional literature, and APA style should be well developed.
Assignment 2 is also a Critical Task, meaning you have to receive a score of 80% on this assignment in order to receive a grade for the class. If you do not receive a score of 80% on Assignment 2, then you will have to work with me to remediate the weaknesses identified in your submission. This often means a delay in receiving a grade for the course.
The biggest difference in content between Assignments 1 and 2 is the depth of review or evidence from prior studies. In both assignments, you are not to use personal pronouns or opinions, but rather you should provide evidence from the professional literature. However, this level of analysis needs to be more extensive in Assignment 2.
Please adhere to the following:
· Submit your papers as Word documents.
· U se references written in the last 20 years. The more current the reference, the better.
· Your paper should be a maximum of 5 pages in APA format, plus a title page and a reference page.
· Do not use direct quotes.
· Use formal language.
· Do not write in first person.
· Please attend to the use of the word that. This is an extremely overused word. When referring to a person, it is best to use the word who. Otherwise, you can use the find and search feature in your word processor for substitutes for the word that and delete it whenever you can.
· Don’t use emotive words such as wonderful or great. They make your comments appear to be your judgment or personal opinion. In a formal paper, you only need facts, not opinions.
· Watch your use of commas, hyphens, and other punctuation.
· Remember to add citations after an assertive statement. Otherwise, it can be mistaken for your opinion.
· Use words to express numbers below 10. Use numerals to express numbers ten and above. Do not begin a sentence with a numeral.
· Use left justification in APA style. No graphics, please.
· Follow APA guidelines for spacing and all formatting. This link is a good starting point. APA Format & Citation Style, 7th edition
