MIET2395 Solid Mechanics Assignment-Part C

Problem 9. Determine the equivalent state of stress if an element is oriented 30° clockwise from the element shown using both stress transformation equations and Mohr’s circle. Sketch the result

on an element.

Problem 10. Determine (a) the principal stresses (b) the maximum in-plane shear stress and associated average normal stress for the state of stress below. Specify the orientation of the

element in each case.

Problem 11. Determine the principal stresses and the absolute maximum shear stress using Mohr’s circle.

Problem 12. The 60° strain rosette is mounted on the surface of the bracket. The following readings are obtained for each gage:

ɛa = -780(10 -6), ɛb = 400(10

-6), and ɛc = 500(10 -6).

Determine (a) the principal strains and (b) the maximum in-plane shear strain and associated

average normal strain. In each case show the deformed element due to these strains.

Note: The strain components could be determined using the below strain transformation equations.
