Symptoms of Alcohol, Cocaine and Heroin Withdrawal
More than one and a half million American citizens are either admitted to a general hospital because of medical conditions that result from dependence on alcohol or enter alcoholism treatment. What source(s) is this statistic from? Other people and these patients who stop drinking alcohol without seeking professional assistance encounter symptoms of alcohol symptoms. Confusing sentence Their central nervous system is used to the constant presence of alcohol in the body, hence a sudden reduction of the levels of alcohol makes the brain to be hyperexcited hence causing withdrawal syndrome. Withdrawal symptoms vary among people who are alcoholics in terms of severity and manifestations ranging from minor insomnia, irritability, minor tremors, agitation, or anxiety. Severe cases of withdrawal result in delirium tremens, seizures, hallucinations, and death in some cases. Where is this information from? What source? Cocaine withdrawal does not have intense physical effects while compared to other drugs. However, the withdrawal comes with its challenges. Cocaine detox affects the psychological bit of the body mainly and some of the symptoms of withdrawal slowed thinking, restlessness, difficulty in concentration, and physical fatigue or slowed activity after activity. Other cases of cocaine withdrawal have difficulty with experiencing sexual arousal, anxiety or depression, nightmares or unpleasant dreams, and suicidal actions or thoughts. Some physical symptoms can be experienced such as muscle aches, tremors, nerve pain, and chills while the persons withdrawing experience increased appetite and craving for cocaine. Heroin affects the reward system of the brain hence making the user increase their tolerance to the effects of the drug with time. Hence, the user will crave for higher doses to achieve the same “high” they had before. Once they achieve addiction, stopping will lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. Heroin abuse has the same effect as hydrocodone, oxycodone, and other painkillers. Heroin withdrawal results in flu symptoms, discomfort, and pain which can last for a week and withdrawal symptoms starting from the second day. Withdrawal of heroin and other opioids has symptoms like insomnia, nausea, and vomiting, dilated pupils, sweating, and anxiety. Withdrawal victims can also experience muscle aches, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. Better section – still need to cite your sources
Long-term Use and Addiction to Heroin
The hHeroine is a strong narcotic that has an intense effect on the reward system of the brain hence influencing the brain to produce chemicals such as endorphins and dopamine which produces the “high”.make the user feel good. It is believed that one in four people who try heroin for the first time end up being addicteds to the drug. Who stated this? Need to cite your source The brain normally releases these chemicals to induce behavior that is important for survival such as coping with pain and eating. Unclear sentence Once the brain has linked the activation of these chemicals to heroin in the brain reward system, the user becomes addicted and cannot function normally in the absence of the drug. Long term use of heroin causes persistent cravings whereby the user fails to cut down consumption or quit. Unclear sentence Despite experiencing problems related to the use of heroin, the user will always find themselves continuing. This assumes that everyone who becomes addicted to heroin will always stay addicted to heroin. The withdrawal effects addiction is also associated with feeling “junk sick”. and withdrawal and they build tolerance towards the drug. The increase in heroin doses or engaging in injection are strong signs of addiction. What could have been considered as a way of having fun ends up becoming an avoidable habit in engaging activities? The general use of heroin causes drowsiness, contentment, apathy, relieving tension, and reduced anxiety. Overdose is associated with a dry mouth, bluish lips, shallow breathing, slow pulse, the pupils become small while the tongue becomes discolored.
